More 6870 Benchmarks...

Even though that GTX 480 is overclocked, the stock 6*** series (if real) doesn't look that much better compared to a clocked GTX 480. But...I know we need to see what the 6*** series can do overclocked.

Wish we had some more (confirmed) information really. Would be a lot better.

I wondered if it might, I need to get memory then a quad before any gpu I think

As a test, I just ran 1280*1024 with 4xAA, everything on very high.

The result was 59.11fps, and the GPU utilisation was mostly between 85% and 95%. So it is possible to get close to GPU limitation at 1280 res.

That said, I'd say a GTX480 is massive overkill for that resolution. Consider a 470 instead to save yourself a chunk of change, or perhaps an ATi 5850. Or better yet - invest in a nice 24" 1920*1200 screen!

I will wait for proper reviews or at least a performance preview for a respectable website before jumping to any conclusions.

It all looks fake to me though. Why would ATI stick to the 256-bit bus? That restricts them in either using 1or 2GB of memory. If the memory speed is true then l believe it will cost them quite a bit more then what they are using now.

Wouldn't it more logical for ATI to use a 320 or 384bit bus to increase bandwidth and allow them to use similar memory amounts as Nvidia without having to resort to more expensive memory to find more memory bandwidth?

Someone with knowledge willing to enlighten me would be nice on the subject.

Well, it's a balance of costs. Using a 384bit bus would increase the cost of the PCB, and require a redesign of the GPU to memory interface (and so, further R+D costs). It may turn out to be cheaper to use the higher-speed GDDR5 than to do the above. Certainly it is a quicker process (adding faster memory should be little more than "plug and go").

Will the 6 series still have the same limitation with 3 monitors? i.e. one needing displayport? I guess nobody can answer that one yet

Well if they are legit, and if the 6870 can beat a clocked 480 without the huge TDP, then I'm sold.

I doubt even a full 512 shader 480 can compete on performance, and the TDP of a 512 version previewed was simply insane... so I doubt we will see it for a while.

well i just benched my 5850 at 950/1200 and got a 17fps average using the same settings but at 1920x1080 so if the 6000 series results are legit thats a stonking tessellation increase

Seems haveing 2x 5970 is crap atm...

if they are real benchmarks i think i will sell one of my 5970's now and buy the new 6970 later and sell my other 5970 when that time comes

How do you know they are very bad drivers, ATI's had a year to develop and works on drivers for their next gen, I very much doubt the drivers are in a bad state, and considering it's basically the same tech as the 5*** cards they should be **** hot on the driver front. If it's real benchmarks at all.

that may be so , but they have yet to get the drivers fixed for the 5*** series let alone the 6*** series
