Unless I'm mistaken NK has one of the largest deposits of rare earth metals in the world along with numerous other metal and petroleum reserves. There are numerous reasons for the US not to want to get involved, but lack of natural resources wouldn't be one of them.

Not wanting to poke the crazy guy who has access to nukes and who shares a border with one of their allies is probably up there.

What do you propose doing? North Korea has a solid ally on the UNSC, a massive standing army, possible nuclear weapons and enough conventional weapons to level Seoul.

SK has very large armed forces and very modern equipment compared to the mainly Soviet era hardware that NK has. While NK can't be underestimated, SK has a considerable advantage in technology.

South Korea could possibly when a war, especially with US support however even the Soviet era weapons of NK would still be enough to flatten Seoul.

No doubt, however the death toll for a full blown conflict in the region would still be horrific on both sides - I can only see military intervention against NK happening if they instigate a conflict with SK.
