They let men do the approaching because that is considered the norm, it's also the easier position to be in as you don't have to be the one getting rejected. I happen to lurk a lot of different threads in these forums and I can tell you more than a few people have been discouraged from internet dating because of constant rejections, it's not easy putting yourself out there and getting shot down again and again. I'd like to think that any guy who got hit on by a female would probably consider it a refreshing change, but I like that you're trying to assert exactly the opposite.
[..]

I agree with you in general, especially when it comes to the extreme antimale sexism in domestic violence and the oft-repeated lies about how men consider it normal and acceptable to beat and rape women, but I think you're missing something regarding this particular issue.

Someone approaching you for sex/a relationship is flattering and a refreshing change...when it's a change. When it happens all the bloody time, it's an annoyance even when it's not done badly (which it often is, especially when alcohol is involved as it often is).

People, organisations etc. need to start ignoring these 'twitter mobs' which are spun as being some sort of commonly held opinion but are in fact a vocal minority.

Wont happen. It'll hurt advertising, PR and revenue from advertising/sponsors.

Thanks for your reply, I did consider this and i probably shouldn't have put across a one sided argument but i have no experience of being a woman :p . It's not really possible to weigh up who has it 'worse', the only way to do that would be to live extended periods as each sex with no preconceptions. I'd imagine the people who complain about getting hit on constantly are probably the more attractive women. Do you think an average looking girl also experiences it to the same degree? And if she doesn't isn't she likely to appreciate the attention overall? Also for the women complaining about the status quo, would they be happy to be the ones doing the chasing while the men take the backseat? You can't have your cake and eat it and I doubt they would care if every guy that hit on them happened to look like Chris Hemsworth. If you have any evidence that contradicts the above I would like to see it. This is anecdotal evidence but i have a close female friend who is not at all bad looking, i've never heard her complain about guys hitting on her but i do remember one occasion after a night out where she complained that no guys approached her.

I think it would be better for everyone overall if there was no onus for the guy to approach the girl, that way the guy wouldn't feel pressured to make the first move on someone he's interested in and as a result women would get hit on less but you can't just hit the reset button on social norms. There's a book called the Self-Made man that I haven't read but I have read about it where a woman passes herself off as a man for 18 months. One of the things she tries is dating and she isn't exactly thrilled to be playing as the guy in that scenario.

Don't worry, if you're a man and the victim of domestic abuse you'll be the one chucked in jail when she plays the victim and then you'll get laughed at by the cops.

How often are fake rape accusations flung around by woman? I suggest you Google mattress girl rape (just 1 of recent amongst many over last couple years). That story cracked me up.

Even though it was proved to be fake (her sending him texts saying she loves it up the pooper were pulled from text message logs), it has still had lasting consequences on a young mans life, he was thrown out of college I think. How is this allowed to go on? why are females not punished for rape claims that turn out to be completely fabricated?

Speaking of this. I heard this the other day about New York Campuses.

Yup yup yup it's becoming ridiculous ...... Imagine if that was a man in this video above.

Full extent of law thrown down on his head.

We also see female teachers sleeping with students often get off lightly too (If a male teacher does it everyone loses their god-damned minds), I keep hearing how society full of male privilege and I'm yet to see it....especially in terms of the law lmao. We just need to cast our eyes over what happens when you get a divorce served up on your desk. Prepare to be raped....

My 2p worth.

When the media are constantly telling us how clever these girls are and how they are showing the men how it should be done, then it's fair to refer to them going back to their normal lives after such heroics.

It's Heroes as the average British pleb would start asking "Whats drugs got to do with it?" Such a bright future our country has.

For some reason you last sentacen reminded me of the classic tale of the Northerner and negative numbers lottery scratch card.

To qualify for a prize, users had to scratch away a window to reveal a temperature lower than the figure displayed on each card. As the game had a winter theme, the temperature was usually below freezing.

But the concept of comparing negative numbers proved too difficult for some Camelot received dozens of complaints on the first day from players who could not understand how, for example, -5 is higher than -6.

Tina Farrell, from Levenshulme, called Camelot after failing to win with several cards.

The 23-year-old, who said she had left school without a maths GCSE, said: "On one of my cards it said I had to find temperatures lower than -8. The numbers I uncovered were -6 and -7 so I thought I had won, and so did the woman in the shop. But when she scanned the card the machine said I hadn't.

"I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it.

"I think Camelot are giving people the wrong impression - the card doesn't say to look for a colder or warmer temperature, it says to look for a higher or lower number. Six is a lower number than 8. Imagine how many people have been misled."

lmao

There was another one too I think, the island by bear grylls woman vs men (they called the show sexist). Similar thing occurred, I think men didn't do amazing but the woman had to be given food because they messed up so badly.

GIRL POWAHHH! I'm not sexist but I am damned fed up with men being portrayed as useless. Because often you find when you go into reality, ie the island show. The results are vastly different...

It seems pretty clear to me and very obviously sexist. That headline would never be used for men, because it's seen as OK that they are professional footballers. However, for some that isn't extended to female players. Instead, it's something they do part time and now that's over they are back to doing their subservient roles.
It was extremely poor taste, and very sexist.

I disagree with you, and actually think that this demonstrates how far we still have to come to tackle inequality in gender.

Obviously the people chosen to go on each island could not possibly have been a factor, and a largely male production and funding team could not possibly have wanted to deliberately pick useless women because a) some of them looked good in a bikini, and b) it makes good TV for a mostly male audience when they mess up.
