Morning emergency. Toilet tank lid broken

In case of the worst case scenario.....I needed to get the whole toilet replaced. How much time/money will a plumber typically take to fit one in?

Ring around some local plumbers and get some quotes, shouldn't cost the earth. To be honest it's not a difficult job and I'm sure you could probably do this yourself, even given your previous experience!

As previously hinted, my DIY skills are next to none :o. This isn't my toilet either - I rent a from a friend. Hopefully it won't come to that and if we have to do it, I am sure we (house mates) can put our heads together.

Fair enough. But it was at the moment; I have spanked most of this months money on my upgrade and knew this would hurt my wallet, I cut my hand, it wasn't my toilet and there was a poo still in the toilet :o

Check the yellow pages for a local plumber merchant, they should be able to order you a new top or even a cheap replacement cistern. As you live in London I would imagine a plumber would charge you three times the national average to fix that. I would find your nearest PTS and give them a call.

If it is filling slowly it is normally the washer needs replacing in the inlet value. Might as well get that fixed while you have the plumber out.

Don't go to B&Q, Homebase or any other DIY shed.
Go to a plumbers merchants, and take the smashed up lid, only place you're even likely to get a spare.

Then go home and try find yourself a nice husband to do these things for you in future :D

Cool - found a few in London. Once I get the brand/model I will get straight on it.

Hahahaha - yeah cooking/cleaning/computers I do well. Cars/DIY - not so much :o:(

Gaffer Tape

Fixes every thing, if you cant tape the lid back together then just tape up the top of the toilet...sorted :p

Cant believe no-one mentioned this before

LOL @ Pike. Not sure if serious :(

LOL @ Renton :p - this isn't my toilet, I don't think my landlord (one of my best friend's mother) would be too pleased with gaffer tape. Plus - it is in too many parts.

EDIT:

Agent_Smith357 - she was there when it happened (heard it from her room).

UncleRuckus - I wet the bed so not much left it the tank :p

Brand and model aren't overly relevant to toilets if I'm honest, they're all roughly the same shape/ size, if you bring in the smashed lid or some measurements they might be able to to do you one.

Now get back in the kitchen and make me a sandwich :D
