Surly then the six axis pad on the PS3 is a gimmick
The whole pad isn't a gimmick because the tilting thing isn't its primary method of control. The six axis itself could be called a gimmick though :)

So yeah, I guess they must be analogue buttons. When you get used to the idea, you can use them to accelerate, though now on the PS3, I use the shoulder buttons instead. Speaking of which though, if you load F1 or RR7 on the PS3, configured to use the X button, before you actually start the race, you can sit there revving.. and the harder you press the X, the harder you press on the throttle.

Nope. The Xbox has analogue buttons as well. The PS2 ones were better though IMO and surprisingly easy to use for throttle control in the GT games. Still not as good as analogue triggers of course.
wow.
really surprised to read this.

Yes. It did.

Last I checked, though, the eyetoy was not the primary method of control for the console.

what the got to do with anything ? the argument (if you can even call it that much ) was that sony copied motion control of Nintendo (blatantly meaning sixaxis)

last time i checked that wasnt a primary method of control either :p its not really any method of control it just sucks

That's a load of rubbish. Pretty sure the PS3 is actually doing better than the 360 in Japan. It's way too soon to count the PS3 out. At the moment there's not really many good games for it, but give it a few months and there will probably be loads. Just the name Final Fantasy is bound to shift a considerable number of consoles.

He never said it isn't doing better than the 360 in Japan (it is, about 4 times better the last few months.... but thats only 8k a week instead of 2k.) For Japan, the PS3 sales are awful!
Theres not gonna be any system sellers before Q4 and i totally disagree that Final Fantasy is anywhere near being a system seller. Take a look at FFXII sales figures, they really aren't all that good. Mario Sunshine outsold it from what i can remember, and that is on a console that sold 25m not 100m.

Final Fantasy 13 is most definately a system seller. Considering the Final Fantasy series is one of the most popular around.

MGS4 is another system seller.

As for saying the final fantasy 12 sales were bad. I've heard completely the opposite, I heard it topped the japanese sales charts, as usual.

Infact. Here

Japanese Sales Figures - Week Ending March 19

1. Final Fantasy XII (PS2) - 1.764.266 - (1.764.266)

2. Animal Crossing : Wild World (NDS) - 70.932 - (2.187.805)

3. More DS Brain Training (NDS) - 67.222 - (1.571.729)

4. English Training DS (NDS) - 39.940 - (656.746)

5. Prof. Kawashima's Brain Training : How old is your brain ? (NDS) - 39.718 - (1.722.597)

6. Samurai Warriors 2 (PS2) - 25.295 - (498.872)

7. Mario Kart DS (NDS) - 17.928 - (1.189.109)

8. Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana (NDS) - 17.574 - (146.700)

9. Guitar Freaks V and Drum Mania V (PS2) - 17.520 - (17.520)

10. Keroro Gunso (NDS) - 15.650 - (15.650)

Square-Enix's highly anticipated Final Fantasy XII dominated Japanese sales charts for the week ending March 19, debuting at number one with 1,764,266 units sold. The figure comes close to matching the 1.8 million first week sales of Final Fantasy X.

And final fantasy 10 was a system seller without a doubt

Well considering I'm usually pretty tight with my money, and I'm willing to buy a PS3 almost purely for FFXIII, it's safe to say there will be a considerable amount of people who will buy a PS3 for that game.

Here are a couple:

"The PS3 has better graphics" - people assume this because the 360 is cheaper so it's not as good.

"Xbox 360's are too hot and crash on me, I've gone though about half a dozen in the past month" - I've heard this from a few people, I've gone over to thier house and seen it laying on the carpet with no room to breath, is it any wonder? People who don't care and don't look after there 360 deserve all they get.

I just get bored of people ripping on consoles that they've never owned. There are too many pros and cons to make it a fair debate and with the fanboys it's impossible to compare the two without some preteen child who's sad life revoles around fanboyism (if that's even a word) and who'll probably never get laid untill he's in his mid 60's to come out and say "Sonys gay" or "PS3 has better graphics" At the end of the day it's down to what the gamer wants, if you want a cheaper high quility unit with a lot of decent games and good online play get a 360 or if you want a console just for GT5 (I know a lot that do) get a PS3 and with the added BR player it's not all that bad. Of course there are a million of other reasons to buy a 360 and not a PS3 or to save your cash for a PS3.

Also I'm sure the 360's buttons are digital, I know the PS2/PS3 has analoge ones.

It annoys me when people say the PS3 is more powerful than the Xbox 360 because of the Cell CPU. Some people seem to think that it's an absolute fact that the Cell is more powerful than the 360's CPUs. When it comes to games that is not a fact, there are too many things to consider to say it is always true.

I haven't read all the thread but here are a couple :

People who say the PSN network sucks and is totally disjointed. They are the people who have never used it.

'If your xbox 360 breaks you must have mistreated it'

I'm just curious, do you mean that you think the PSN Network itself is good, or just that the online game performance is good ?

I'm one of those people who thinks that whilst the network performance in Resistance and F1 seemed good, the PS Network as a whole package does indeed suck. The problems I find with the PS Network as a whole are the lack of an official Sony headset and poor voice comms, lack of functionality when compared to Live, really poor PS Store content.

This brings me on to the comment I hate:

"But PS Network is free" - I'd rather pay £40 a year for a decent service thankyou.

The PS networks gives me and many, many others, everything they need for online gaming.
A friends list, great performance online (which is the keyt to multiplayer gaming IMO), most games support voice chat, but TBH voice chat doesn't bother me as i tend not to be chatty. The PS store is fine, with some great titles, and the prices are fantastic.
I honestly don't use anything else on Live tbh. Once they add xmb access from anywhere then i wont have any complaints about the PSN tbh.
I don't use 90% of Live, i only use it for the online multiplayer, and that is the biggest part that sucks about Live unfortunatly.

I agree with Jumpurs, the minute XMB gets integrated into games, not long now, MS had better get their heads out the sand, stop ripping everyone off, stop trying to charge us just to COUGH over the Live service and get their butts in gear.

I used to really like the Live service, and the 360 console itself, but every day I get more and more disillusioned with it. It doesn't help that MS has made no secret of its intent to make the scheme seen in Halo 2 Vista extend to many of their future Live PC and 360 games - leave out many key features and functionality for silver users. It's disgusting and they are trying to rob us.

Good on you Sony for making your services free, and keep up the good work. For example, look at the update Resistance is getting, which is on par with what Epic did for GoW, you know, the one that cost us all 6 quid to get? MS forced Epic to charge for that, even thought they demanded it be free.

God I never thought I'd say that, but it's gone this far.

wow.
really surprised to read this.

Also, in MGS3 if you press the fire button lightly you hold the gun up but as soon as you press it hard you shoot.

I only realised this last year when i got the game!

Haha!!! :D

Live a decent service! haha!

Live is a joke and totally over priced!! Paying for multiplayer! What a joke.

Resistance is excellent online, really easy to get into ranked games, no lag, no downgrade in graphics quality.

I agree a lot with the comments above.

One of the main reasons im hating live is that it costs so much for nothing different from PSN imo.

No it is not.
It sold 1.8m in the first week in Japan.... and since then it has sold another 0.5 million.

From Wikipedia
"Final Fantasy XII (2.38 million in Japan only,[81] 1.3 million in US only,[10] approximately 3.68 million)"
That doesn't take the EU in to account but still that is tremendously poor sales for such an over hyped series. In contrast, the real system sellers such as GTA, Gran Turismo and yes indeed MGS sold:

# Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (13 million)[76][3]
# Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (12 million)[77]
# Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (11 million)[67]
# Grand Theft Auto III (11 million)[76]
# Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (7 million)[78]

Final Fantasy is lagging miles behind. FFX only managed 5 million.
The way people go on about the FF series is so over the top, it has far less influnce than it once did. FFVII sold close to 10m. Now it's sales just don't compare to the bigger games on the system.
I don't know anyone that would buy a console for and FF game yet i know plenty that would for GTA or Gran Turismo. Those sales figures really put things in to perspective. To be honest, i am really surprised just how low the game sales on the PS2 are generally. For a 100+m selling console, it seems pretty poor.

I thought rumble was a separate company? didnt they all have to pay royalties to the company, immersion was it?

As far as i know, Nintendo use their own technology for rumble which is done in a slightly different way to the Immersion tech. MS and Sony both use the Immersion tech and consequently got sued.
