Anyone remember "Sanitarium"? One of the best "involving" games i've played.

Yes its old and looks poo. But hell, it MADE me want to play it. The only other game thats made me want to play is css.

Also, the menu on that game is the best ever, which some strange noise when you rollover an option, and the storyline held me for ages, also some of it was quite a good mind worker :)

I suggest you go download a demo/the game its its been avail to download now (It is stupidly old so they might have put it out).

Agreed, awsome atmosphere and a cunning storyline. Great twist at the end to! I must admit the only other game that i have really enjoyed the storyline in was HL2! its just so well thought out and interesting.

Half life 2 was pretty engrosing for me, although I haven't played the first one, I presume that it'd have even more OMGWTFAWESOME factor If I actually know what half of the Black Mesa poo was all about.

Oblivion is pretty engrosing though and I'm not even on the main quest yet.

Knights of the Old Republic
Jedi Knight Series
Call of Duty series (Especially number 2)
Max Payne, only the first one

They had a significant impact on my gameplay!

Oh and as for engrossing atmosphere, between levels 1-45 WoW was my heroin :p...i went cold turkey in november and havent relapsed yet \o/

You should've tried Galaxies when it was good. Star Wars atmosphere + MMORPG atmosphere = win.

If we're talking PC games then Deus Ex is probably my best for storyline. For atmosphere I think Aliens vs Predator is the best I have played.

If we're talking all games then for best story I have to include the FF series (except maybe 1,2 and 5, there wasn't much story to them) and the MGS series. Even though some of these came out on PC I don't count them as PC games.

I'm going to play devil's advocate on Max Payne. The plot is actually nothing special, it's the way the story is presented that's good. The storyline itself wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either.

X3: The Reunion has great atmosphere. Especially when you enter the star systems which are quite remote and isolated

Hmmm

Full Throttle
Knights Of The Old Republic
Jedi Knight
Tie Fighter
Eve Online ... to be fair some great stories in that one.

Lucasarts in particular seems to be a leader. :)
