shocking ?

irreversible

good film though imo

at 2002 cannes festival 250 people walked out and 20 people fainted and had to be given oxygen .

definetly worth watching if you havent seen it.

I Agree, the 2 scenes are the most graphic/disgusting I have even seen, however the film really stays with you for a few days, makes you think - a really great film.

indeed, even more so when you realise the mistake he made

its not just disturbing but its a great film with some great ideas from the director

imo (have to post that every post in here just to make sure :p )

/shuts up before film is ruined

hostel is like a stroll in the park on a nice summers day compared to some of the films mentioned here :p

The fire extinguisher scene in Irreversible is harsh to say the least.

Parts of The Hills Have Eyes are quite harsh.

Jacobs Ladder I always found a bit disturbing to watch.

hostel was on a par with bambi!

i dont understand what was so gory about it, very little of it was visible, mostly it was just blurry vision through a darkened corridor with <1second glimpses into rooms.

I think there was a bit more to it than that and you know it if you've seen it. Also it doesn't have to be gory, its quite violent too.

Its one of the best of the recent bunch.

Can't believe nobody has said ichi the killer ( live action not anime ) for gore this film is up there pretty awful, and for weirdness gozu ( both films diirected by miike takashi ) espically the bit with the women giving birth to a forty/fifty year old man, disturbing

To me Gore and the like I can handle but when it comes to social issues, thats when It can get disturbing.

Take for example the film Spanking the Monkey. Its about a young lad who starts to have "feelings" towards his mother who had an accident and was house bound for some lenght of time.

That is disturbing.

If you not seen it probably worth a borrow or rent other than that not worth buying it though. Not the best film. It was shown on C4 years ago when they had the Banned season on.

EDIT: ..and no my monkey wasnt spanked while I was viewing this movie.:p

I'd say the Hellraiser movies were pretty gory and shocking.

But... I was 13 when I watched them :D

Something about people walking around with no skin...

Audition, definately good and shocking, I'd say Ringu and Grudge originals. Not much else has really shocked me recently (got bored halfway through watching Oldboy, quite dull :( )

i just dont think it was that disturbing or gory compared with something like say SAW I and SAW II, which both pale in comparison to most foreign shocker films, or older shocker films.

from all the reviews and what people had told me i was expecting to be terrified and freaked out by it, which i was none of! it just bored me throughout, came to a mediocre ending of revenge and then i left.

its in the first post :p

I remember what my film teacher said to me, it was when we were doing the gendered perspectives part of the course and there was a lady in the class who was moderating. I showed the nice torture scene, my teacher said to me the next day that the moderator had a fear of needle  :D

Glad someone mentioned August Underground's Mordum because it makes every other suggestion look like a Pixar movie. If you want any confirmation of this statement, read some reviews on it. I don't recommend watching it, I caved in out of curiousity and wish I didn't. The Irreversible fire extinguisher scene is a walk in the park compared to some of the scenes in this movie.

Aftermath: Genesis is also very gory and shocking, but actually quite a good movie. Totally sick, but a lot better than Mordum.

cube? i hope you've got that confused for some other film... cube is far from disturbing

All i remember is the guy at the start and the way he died, the rest, as you rightly said isn't disturbing.

I just watched Saw and Saw II back-to-back, and I can't really say they were disturbing. Of course, the "reverse beartrap" in Saw I is something not easily forgot. But for the most part, I thought they were good stories with very clever plots.

Not seen Hostel yet. I'm told it's along the same lines.

"The Cell" had one scene (poor horsie!) that I won't let the wife watch because of.

"American History X" - teeth & curb scene.

"American Psycho" - just what exactly did he do with that coat hanger?

"Deliverance" - "Squeal like a pig, boy!"

"Resident Evil" - (I think, or RE2 - The Apocalypse) Laser room scene.

"The Pit & The Pendulum" - Just wrong on all accounts

"Caligula" - buried in the sand scene, and the fist/ring scene.

"Ghost Ship" - the way the shipmates died at the beginning.

"Time After Time" - The sound made from Jack the Ripper's victim.

edit: "Braveheart" - I can't even watch the movie now because of that final scene. Just sick and wrong.

Ok, yeah. I thought about it for a few minutes. :)

^ jesus christ, i just read a review of that film. why would anyone want to watch something like that?!

Basically as MKS2005 said it's a curriosity thing.

Basically I didnt think anyone could make a film as nasty as they said this was...apparently they can ;)

It was just plain wrong on soooo many levels but then I think Slaughter Vomit Dolls takes things just a bit further & I felt very very ill following a couple of scenes in that, without giving to much away...self induced vomiting using a severed arm   , which did no favours for my own lunch that I'd eaten some 2 hours prior to attempting to watch it.
