Most horrific / violent / shocking / gory films ever ?

Cannibal Holocaust: You see a fetus being ripped from a woman. Also the animal slaughterings were real, leading to it being banned in Italy the creater was sent to court a few times and had to prove the human body parts were NOT real. Apart from that here are some other movies.

Driller Killer, I Spit on Your Grave, Zombie Flesh Eaters and a load of others I forget.

There was a lot of media hype at the time about Cannibal Holocaust, iirc the director made the actors sign contracts not to do any work for a year after to make the film appear real.

Driller killer was rubbish imo, not really gory or horrific and well over-rated.
Zombie Flesh Eaters is brilliant, the eye scene is fairly grusome but rest of the film is typical zombie film gore and nothing too shocking, although its one of the best ever made imo.

I spit on your grave was fairly shocking but I thought LHOTL was far worse.

Last house on the left.

Watched it during the summer and was genuinly shocked and surprised by how much of an effect it had on me. Excellent film, and one of the video nasties.

Also try 'switchblade romance'. Very gory french film from a few years ago which is pretty trick too. Also try day of the dead which has some very memorable moments in it.

Recorded 'i spit on your grave last night', and will be watching it later when i get back from the pub.

I think that has to be the most horrific film I have ever seen, did you watch the region 2 version or the uncut one (R1)?

Rogue Pictures has signed a deal to remake the film. Craven will produce along with longtime partner Marianne Maddalena and Sean S. Cunningham. Craven and Rogue are eyeing an early 2007 start date.[1]

Wonder what that'll be like. :)

Indeed, I wonder. Most remakes these days always have a certain glamour or cleaness to them, if you understand what I mean. But that's what worked for LHOTL, it was gritty, hand held camera work that gave it realism. I doubt they would copy the original, I just can't see what else they could do with it.

"Braveheart" - I can't even watch the movie now because of that final scene. Just sick and wrong.
:o

That scene was so epic, makes the film worth watching.
And I hate gore :(

No-one mentioned Pan's Labrynth yet then?

In terms of gore..theres rake loads of straight war films with some serious gore in them, way more than would be ever acceptable in a horror movie.. There's a Disney version of Rob Roy/Kidnapped, cant remember which, i was about 6 at the time :p , where you quite clearly see a bayonet going straight through a guys arm as he is hiding in a haystack.. For gore what about the part in Khartoum where the Mahdi shows Gordon the *ring* and his friends shrunken heads?

Gonna have to get some of the films mentioned here, most of what I've already seen hasn't bothered me in the slightest. Ichi was just another average film no matter how many times I see it. Oldboy was only disturbing at the end, great film nontheless. Battle Royale was a good film but not horrific, violent, shocking or gory and the sequel was pants as the director passed away part way through and his son finished off the film. Audition didn't make me cringe either. Might shoot you an email penski and see about this film you mention as I need a film to freak me out and haven't seen one yet.

Whistle and I'll Come to You

Now that is scary.... Treasure of the 3 crowns as well... The Abbots Treasure.. that whole series of Ghost stories for Xmas by the BBC, mostly based on the stories of M R James, is worth checking out if you want scarey..
