Most over-rated film thread!

"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" - I'm sorry - but an Oscar movie??? Say what? Actors flying about on strings, trippy, bong induced storyline that could be told in 10 minute amateur miniature. Where is the tiger? What dragon? More importantly why is tiger crouching and why is dragon hiding - is it watching whatever tiger is doing in that unfortunate position? We will never know.

Magnolia - Again - Oscar nominated, star filled movie. It's like taking pills for motion sickness, drink bottle of vodka and go hang head down from a pergola in garden for 2 hours 20 minutes.

Eyes Wide Shut - sometimes when it's on telly, I wake up in the middle of it and can't believe it's the same day, let alone same movie.

Clockwork Orange - so much hype, so much hassle, bans, directors cuts, and.. is that some sort of low budget, amateur stage play? Did they loose original copy and all that was left were rehersal tapes only? Or was that really IT - the movie we were waiting nearly three decades for?

Spiderman - am I the only one thinking leading actor is stoned, his girlfriend is narcoleptic and animation is almost as bad as in mangas? Was I supposed to take some pills before I entered cinema or something?

The thin red line - 170 minutes of multiple oscar nominated self pity, pseudo psychological jerking and pillow crying "How could it break up and come apart? How could we turned against each other? Each standing in the other's light. How could we lose the good that was given us? Let it slip away. Scattered it, careless. What's keepin' us from reaching out, touching the glory?" You lost it because of your fleaping mooooaaaaaaaning, you sedated moron!!!!!

Titanic. An ex made me sit through an hour of that drivel. I fast forwarded it to the last few minutes. Enjoyed watching them die and made up the rest of the plot in my head.

I'm hardly in any position to say it's overated as I couldn't bear to sit through it all, but I am doing anyway. The first hour was extremely dull. It picked up considerably in fast forwards as I didn't have to hear the crappy dialogue and they got on with dying a hell of a lot quicker.

[edit] "Awwww man.... not on the rug."
"Lets go bowling"

The Big Lebowski is good it's not true :P[/edit]

You cant be serious? Yes the story may not have been great. It took war films to a new dimension. Actually portrayed war for what it was and not some gun-ho glamour fest.

I thought it was very Hollywood, it started well but lost it once the storyline kicked in. Not too a bad film really and certainly a lot better than say pearl harbour, but I thought 'nam films like Platoon & The Deer Hunter were done a lot better.

I do like Blair Witch & Lost in Translation which seem to be rater hated here. You didn't say what you thought was overrated?

I thought the film tried to be far to clever for its own good.
Agreed. The film was very good indeed until the end and the when the secret society came into it. I found then it tried to be too clever and somewhat fell over itself.

Personally, I would say Gladiator. I have never highly rated that film and people RAVE about it. It is so incredibly average!

Matrix Trilogy
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Star Wars Trilogy

I see a pattern :p

Oh and Kill Bill

The irony? I wouldn't have fallen asleep if it wasn't boring.

I honestly can't see what the big fuss is about these films. Yes, the special effects are pretty awesome, but apart from that they're all pretty bog standard films to be honest.

Good call

Forgot about The Quiet American before, another multi-award nominated film - but a total snorefest. Had good performances from most of the cast, but it was like a casting call showing off their individual abilities, rather than a congruent movie. Definately significantly less than the sum of its parts
