MOT fail thread

In London today. It has an MOT, but no tax.

I dunno what's worse, the lax attitude towards safety, or the fact that this 125cc engine has got... wait for it, one hundred and thirty six thousand miles on it.

Typical Fiat 500 beam axle..

FWIW those holes aren't supposed to be there, but they've appeared due to the appalling quality of materials used and corrosion has just eaten through the axle.
I can't think of a more poorly put together car than the 500, it's like the rubber bushings are made from second hand condoms and the metal is from baked bean cans, but not Heinz cans, because they'd be too expensive.
Truly horrid things after a few years from new.

Delivery driver with a cut down L plate bolted on the entire time too I'll wager.

Also curious that their MOT history says they did negative 30,000 miles one year.

I honestly think car manufacturers should have to make good on stuff like that - they get away with far too much.

Yup, I’ve seen so many very badly welded ones which never last..

Leaving the **** on the weld as extra rust protection? Could actually be some genius at work.

It’s shocking that someone tacked that up and decided those welds are roadworthy and safe. Maybe some emphasis needs to be placed on the fact our MOT test is a minimum standard test. Possibly add a grade along with the pass that insurers can use to adjust premiums.

@JonRGV250 A question for you. I was coming home today behind a Ford Ecosport and noticed they had a pair of small led spotlights fitted under the rear bumper. I presume they were wired into the reversing light but is this even legal and able to pass a mot? If so that could be just what I need for my Leaf because the reversing lights are next to useless, especially in the rain. Down our end of the cul-de-sac it is pitch black and I can't see a thing when reversing into my parking slot so this would be a massive help if it is legal.

Disconnect them before the MOT and the are perfectly legal.

Can't you fit led bulbs instead of the normal reverse light bulbs?

I did on my mg5.

Perfectly fine, as long as no white light is showing to rear (apart from reversing).

ie if a rear lens is broken and the side lights/brake lights show white light when driving, then it'll fail.
You can have as many reverse lights as you want, just as long as..
