Motorway speed limits.

At what speed would they get you on the moterway and NSL dual carraige way.

Was doing 75 indicated upto one on the A419 earlier, is this classed as within the 10%?

Well I think 75 on a motorway is easyily safe but thast a whole different kettle of fish.

I think you'll be fine. GPS speed must have been 73 or something. I'd say you will be A Okay.

Have fun waiting though...tick tock goes the clock...

The 10% rule doesn't really exsist.

There's no guildlines as such, they could do you for 71mph if they wanted. So it's best no to risk it. Although do remember that your speedo does tend to over-read, by how much is anyones guess though unless you have a gps gizmo.

(I tend to do 80-85mph though, I figure on a good day they might let you off, if not then 3points - meh).

I found that when my speedo read 75mph my mates tomtom said i was doing dead on 70. So yeah you should be fine at that speed.

its stupid though, i was overtaking other cars, and hate sitting in the outside lane. So you speed up a little to clear the line of cars, then you see the scum on the bridge, was quite far away from them.

Hopefully i'll be alright, only been driving 6 months and many times think have i been done, but nothings ever come of it.

i **** myself on saturday, overtaking doing 85 and i saw a marked up range rover on a bridge in the distance, but it started to pull off just as i got there so I think it's safe to assume it wasnt clocking me (hopefully :()

Tom.

They were heading for the nearest on-ramp to pursue you but you escaped...be afraid!

In reality, if policing the motorway was done to the letter, the courts would come to a grinding halt due to the amount of people due in and police would have to take a stack of tickets out every time.

If traffic is flowing freely and conditions are safe as in not wet or cold, police will rarely bother anyone doing over 85.

There is no reason I feel, why the law should not be reconsidered and even up to a 100mph limit be considered for the M-ways.

Some cars just dont feel safe at that speed though.

unless i'm mistaken there are indeed home office guidelines recommending speed+10%+2mph,the problem is they are guidelines only and not mandatory.
while some forces adopted them, others didn't...the question is did yours? ;)

Thats a fair point, although I still believe it should be considered.
A raise would be nice I often do about 80, I could go faster and still feel safe but I just dont feel the need to really.

100Mph on a motorway would be silly. You'd get people doing 100Mph on the inside lane and then people doing silly speeds in the outside....

...stopping distances are increased, more accidents.

Definitely not on the cards.

Is it really that silly as to be discounted completely ?

I take stretches of the M6 in Cumbria and Lancashire as an example of where it is not out of the question. It is clearly not going to happen on the M25 in rush hour but I still see no reason why not where it can be achieved safely. The 70 limit was brought in when car technology was not as it is now and 70 is not a realistic figure now I think.

Very true. I think that a weather permitting speed limit would be better though, like France (130/110kmph IIRC)

Things happen so much quicker at those sort of speeds and not everyone on the roads is a good driver, (no, really? :p).

It's not going to happen for obvious reasons - can't beleive I responded to the last comment.

I definitely wouldn't go on the motorway if it were a 100mph limit. That's all i'm going to say on this subject.
