Only just started watching MotoGP this year so not fully aware of everything, but it looked more like Lorenzo turned in on Marquez after he was already pulling in front?

Great win for Dani...and Lorenzo will have kittens when he see's the shapes Marquez was making behind him on the brakes throughout the race. He's a great racer no doubt is MM but i can see him taking himself and other people out this season...

Haha love it. Lorenzo always goes mental if anyone gets anywhere near him during an overtake. He ought to grow a pair.

Last time it was Simoncelli he was moaning about.

Rossi needs to up his game. He was only 3 or 4 seconds off Lorenzo in the end, but he was never going to catch the front three.

its called a block pass.
Lorenzo was just going for his line and found MM there lol

I wouldn't call that a block pass to be honest - he completely overcooked that corner and didnt have a chance of making it without bouncing off Lorenzo. Still, it makes for a good bit of needle in the championship! I quite like Marquez - his riding style is awful compared to Lorenzo, but it's exciting to watch

The pass was very naughty, and I wouldn't compare it to the Rossi/Gibernau move. At least Rossi had the bike stopped for the corner, but they got a bit tangled up.(No front brake guard in those days)

There was no way Marquez was going to get that bike stopped, and basically rammed into him. In hindsight, Lorenzo should have known he would try the pass, and let him through to run wide, although the stupid amount of power those Hondas have with those midgets on, he would have probably pipped him to the line anyway.

GP needed something to mix things up a bit and Marquez has delivered, to be fair Lorenzo left the door wide open and basically invited him in. He's young and ambitious of course he's going to take an opportunity like that

I agree with the comments regarding the pass on JL, MM pretty much knew what he was doing, As he had said just after the race that that sort of pass had been done before (Rossi and Gib), That said though JL had left him the opportunity, Though it did look very kamikaze like from a long way back. MM is still quite raw, Extremely quick but needs to work on his racecraft, That will come with time and over the course of the season will become stronger, That is if he does not bin it and injure himself...

Being a big VR fan, I am not surprised by his perceived lack of pace, Not only in the race but qualifying as well, I kinda though it would take him a while to get back to his very best, Though I would expect him to start taking it to JL by about mid season. When you look at VR`s relative lap times compared to JL then you can see where he needs to improve. I looked at JL`s race pace on the moto gp website and he was virtually in the 1.40`s the whole race barring about 5 laps and that was whilst fighting MM, VR on the other hand had about 18 laps of being in the 1.40`s and was just on his own, So based on those times and consistency of laps suggests that VR has to start nailing the thing sooner rather than later.

The one thing that got me stumped was the yamaha`s lack of speed at a track that is synonymous with the Yams, Have Honda produced a bike that can equal or better the Yamaha`s at it`s own game? If so then I predict a very long and hard season for the Yamaha riders..At this moment it seems that the Honda`s are gonna be tough to beat, Though that said there is a lot of talk about the softer compound tyres and I heard more moans coming from Yamaha than I did Honda this weekend, Whatever way you look at it, apart from the 1st round, The Repsol boy`s look like they could nick it this year. The M1 has been developed for years to be the most nimble bike through the corners but slowly the Honda`s have closed that gap and now have a very quick bike in straight lines, corner exit speed and corner entry. I hope Yamaha can develop the bike to make it more on par with the Honda`s but that is quite a big ask.

As for Cal, What can you say? He is easily the 5th fastest guy out there, But he is pushing beyond the bike`s limit at times, Hence why he is having to pick the bike up more from the gravel, Which in turn is losing him his opportunity to take it to the "aliens". It seems that Cal is better in qualy trim than the race and things will get harder as his bike will not get as much development as the works boy`s.

I hope we get a closer race in Le-mans, Though this is a track that suits the Hondas more than jerez and you could see the Sat Honda bikes giving all the Yams a hard time.

Also loving what Esagaro's doing on the CRT bike.

The results should only get better next year with the Moto GP guys having to run less fuel.

Fastest race lap:

There's no doubt Cal is incredibly quick on a bike, but he seems to lose places on the starts then struggles to make passes. The bike doesn't help I'm sure, but he tends to lose a couple of places in the start to slower riders, then gets stuck behind them for 10 laps by which time the podium places are in the distance. Was the same all last season.

Riders react to dramatic final turn in Jerez

Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda Team

“It’s the final lap, it’s an aggressive move obviously. I guess if they hadn’t touched Marc would run out of track. So it means he was a little too late on the brakes. But you know - they touched in this certain point of the corner. It was kind of similar to turn one at the start in Austin, but I had time to see him coming. Just hope it doesn’t come again in the next ones.”

Colin Edwards, NGM Mobile Forward Racing

“It’s racing motorcycles isn’t it? You know, any time you’ve got this amount of people and you’ve got the passion….and especially Marquez. We’re in Spain! That kind of thing happens around here, it happens anywhere in the world. It doesn’t matter whose side you’re on – take it or leave it – that’s racing motorcycles.”

Andrea Dovizioso, Ducati Team

“I think Marquez was quite aggressive, but I don’t think it was over the limit. But sure we have to just speak in the Safety Commission about that, just to be clear about the rules. I mean, everybody has to know how we can fight. But anyway, it was hard, but I don’t think over the limit.”

Valentino Rossi, Yamaha Factory Racing

“It’s a hard attack for sure, and a hard overtake from Marc. He touched Jorge, but it’s the last lap, the last corner, and sure the guy behind tries something. Jorge kept the door open and Marc went inside, so I think it’s something that can happen in racing. “

lorenzo
Reflecting on defeat to Marquez, Lorenzo told MCN: “I lost the second place and it was like this. Race Direction decided not to do anything and that’s it. We didn’t crash and that's important and I lost four points and the lead in the world championship.

Interesting read. Thanks for the post. Wonder how some of the other riders would have reacted had the incident happened to them. Very political from Jorge, clearly not happy though.

Good to see Cal up there again beating factory riders, if he can keep that going and put in the odd podium finish I think we will see him on a factory bike next season.
