MotoGP 2013

Everyone seems to be assuming next years bike will be bad by default.

Next year could be the year Audi's money turns into results? They could pull a Brawn? The bike might suit Cal? ......the variables are endless.

I hope it goes well for the lad, seems like a nice guy.

if history is anything to go by the bike will be a small update on this years bike
because that's all ducati do

This isn't F1 where there were huge changes to the way the car had to be made for next year. There are some minor engine/ecu rule changes next year but nothing that will effect the handling of the bike which is the big problem with it at the moment. I'd like to see more competitive rides but I can't see them finding 1.5-2 seconds a lap with money and little testing. Don't get me wrong I'd love Cal to prove everybody wrong but look at the list of names that have got on that bike and done nothing, the odds aren't in his favor.

Stoner wasn't doing all that great on the non factory Honda Pons RCV211V, run by Checchinello back in 2006, which is the Honda equiv to the Tech3 was and only finished 8th in the Championship. Jumped on the Ducati in 2007 and won the championship. Up until then Stoner wasn't a serious contender.

Plus it'll do the world of good to Ducati sales, seeing the UK is a huge market for them.

Don't rule him out just yet fellas !!! Best of luck to you Cal..

Good luck to Cal because he does come across as a nice guy and he obviously has proven talent but why switch to a bike that is worse than the Tech 3 bike he has now and will most probably be next year?

I guess money is a factor in all this and if thats the reason then fair enough, he wants to secure his future the best he can but Dovi never got anywhere on that bike and he has a very simular pace to Cal, there was never much in it.

If he had stayed at Tech 3 one more year he would end up higher in the standings than he will now with a possibility of taking Rossi's place in 2015 as I don't believe he will be carrying on past this contract he has now.

We're all assuming he COULD stay at Tech3 next season. Bradley has a contract for next year I believe and Yamaha are reckoned to be pushing Espargaro onto Tech3 next season. Perhaps there wasn't space despite all that Lyn Jarvis was saying they wanted him to stay.

Possibly but I would n't think they would say they wanted Cal to stay if they never offered him a new contract, it would not look very good on Yamaha as a company because the truth would eventually come out.

True enough. I can only assume he's getting paid more and was given assurances that Audi cash and German 'win or go home' mentality means they're going to throw tradition in the bin and design a bike from scratch. There was rumour they were going to drop the Desmodromic valvetrain and go to Hydraulic valves like everyone else. The next logical step is to drop their traditional V angle.

He couldn't get a feel of the front end of the Honda in 2006, kept losing it and didn't have the confidence to hustle it, much in the way Rossi couldn't hustle the Ducati.

He hopped off it half a dozen times that season, but to anyone watching he made a very strong impression.

The fact that he finished every race the following season (even with Stoner's style) graphically shows how important that little bit of extra feel gives in bike racing.

theres a lot of talk that Cal is moving the wrong direction and that the tech3 is a better bike, rather then the rider out performing the bike in this case.

The Ducati is not a great bike however both ducati's sit above the second tech3 bike in the standings just showing that the rider can make the difference.

Maybe if Cal was riding the bike this year and could get the same level of feel that hes getting on the tech3 then he could well be performing just as well if not better then now. The rider element is quite a big factor that people seem to be ignoring and just saying that the tech3 bike > the current ducati.

I see it as a side step in terms of performance but a much stronger position for his career. Only time will tell.

yeah sitting above a rookie on a bike recognised by all in the know as a parts bin special and dovi is down on where he was last year which says it all

Indeed. An unproven chassis with a Yamaha lease engine or a Honda Production Racer that will be better than a CRT bike but probably not as good as a genuine Works Honda. On purpose.

It's disappointing that Cal is on Ducati next year but other than CRT what option did he have ?

to stay with tech 3, that's what Yamaha wanted
they offered him a Yamaha contract not just a tech 3 one, but it was only 1 year and cal didn't want that without a promise to move to the main team in 2015.
Yamaha said they couldn't promise that, so he left.

If that's true he has kissed his world title chances goodbye by signing with ducati

that's what the boss of the works Yamaha team(lin Jarvis) said.
cal would have a contract with Yamaha direct but stay at tech 3.
but until Yamaha know where Lorenzo n rossi are going to be there is no place in the main works team in 2015.

on a side note
I know something was wrong when he didn't go the Yamaha head office in usa like he had the last 2 years before the race and im now wondering if his lowly 7th is because Yamaha have taken away the help from the jap techs he had in his garage and left him to set the bike up on his own, it does fit what happened after being so fast b4 last race, time will tell I guess.
one thing I think is Yamaha wont give him any updates the rest of the year now

I don't get what he has done really.. Yam deal is better than the Ducati deal. I never said he'd win the WC, but at least a chance. He's going to be 9th/10th on that bike now.. Better off going to the PEA CRT Team...
