Motorola Atrix 4G

This phone certainly looks interesting! Cant wait to read reviews on it. Shame my desire contract isnt up till next year, where no doubt there will be some interesting phones as well :)

my biggest dissapoint is the fact that the Atrix will be shipping with Android 2.2 with the update to 2.3 anytime before the end of the year....why why why? God dammit ship with 2.3 or else!!! :D

^ That can be fixed, the pentile LCD is a total deal breaker for me.

A 'fuzzy' LCD screen without the blacks/contrast/viewing angles of OLED?

They usually are; Moto cite business security as the reason I believe. But they also said they'd be working with the hacking community on future phones, so who knows.

If it's unhackable, that's my purchase straight out of the window tbh.

Yup, well done Motorola, lost a decent amount of customers there I'd imagine. So much for Android being open

Android is Open :p

All android devices should have fully unlockable bootloaders and easily achievable root. I know it's a manufacturer thing, but Google really needs to push this IMO.

Not being to get root or flash new ROMs takes a big part of the appeal of an Android device away for me.

This is true but I can't imagine it will stop the XDA crew from trying (and as usual, succeeding!)

is there any reason for LauncherPro NOT working properly on the Atrix due to its qHD resolution...i.e. will everything scale properly to fit the screen?

It's not so much a manufacturer thing as an Mobile Operator thing. Pure greed with them wanting to prevent tethering. It's the operators who put pressure on the manufacturers.
Still It's up the the manufacturers as to how much effort they put into locking them down, which is the major reason I'm not going to get another Motorola Android phone - they lock them down and then screw their customers over when it comes to updates.

It's a shame as I love the Atrix's specs, but I'll probably wait for the Dell Streak 2, or the next big screen HTC.

Thats great news for this phone! Still think the devs will pick up the SGS2 though and I much prefer the hardware on that for my own personal use, but at least there is a fallback for me now :p
