Motorola Atrix 4G

I'm set on the 2x for the time.
-better gaming than atrix due to lower res screen
-better screen than atrix pentile display
-smaller than s2
-tegra 2 (unlike the debut s2 model) which will get heaps of support.
-I'm hopeful it will run ps1 / n64 emulators smoothly.

the stock rom is crap, but a custom one will fix that.

the only downside is it's half the ram of the atrix and s2, but that it doesn't seem to make a difference to benchmarks.

The s2 does look nice, but I suspect it will be too big.

ashatron - I believe RAM will make a difference - 512MB is the absolute minimum you want for Android to run decently...

More is always a better thing and will contribute to speed and smoothness and grater multitasking abilities.

Agree. Even if it has 512mb ram the phone will actually have less ram than that upon boot

I bought the phone online, so its posted. I was in UK on thursday....so I hope monday i get it. Will let you guys know how it is on Vodafone (assuming my unlock code works lol)

Awesome ronaldo, thanks!

I've read the the 1gb of ram on the atrix is split in half. Half for the laptop dock and half for the phone. If that's true then it's on level with the 2x ram wise.

Also the atrix doesn't appear to be smoother or faster or have faster benchmarks (at least not by any significant amount). So maybe 512mb is enough.

My mini preview

Ok first of all, I will not do a full review, there are tons out there. These are just my thoughts/opinions on the phone.

I live and work in Canada, so I managed to get the Atrix on release day (today). Been playing with it for a couple of hours. I havent pulled the protective film off the Atrix at the time I took the photos.

Im a big Android fan, so here's a size comparison of my phones. From left to right: DHD, Atrix, SGS, LG Optimus One

Here's a closer look of the 3 most popular phones

I love the Notification LED on the upper right side off the phone. I missed this on my old X10.

Thickness shot (sorry its blurry)

Size-wise, the Atrix is smaller than the DHD and SGS. It's weight falls between the DHD (solid and heavy) and SGS (plasticy and light).
Thickness-wise the Atrix (10.1) also falls between DHD (11.8) and the SGS (9.9mm).

Build quality feels the same as the SGS. The back battery cover (which covers pretty much the whole back) is made of plastic. To be honest, the Atrix has the same general feel like the SGS, only a tid bit smaller.

Performance wise, the Atrix feels quick, smooth and snappy. Switching between menus/open apps is pretty quick. Browsing definitely feels faster than the SGS/DHD. Im using the stock Motoblur UI. But maybe that's because my phone is pretty much stock/empty in apps.

Gallery opens up almost instantly. On my SGS/DHD, the Gallery takes time to load the pics (I used the same 16gb C6 microSD and transferred it from one phone to another ).

Screen-wise, the Pentile screen of the Atrix looks no different than on my SGS. (I dont see anything grainy, but that's just my opinion, some of you may disagree). But brightness/vividness/crispness-wise, the AMOLED screen definitely beats it.

I heard there are a few problems on apps and games due to the Atrix's resolution. I will do some testing on this..

There's an app called TegraZone Games (from market but only available for Tegra phones). It has games which makes use of the Tegra chip. I have yet to purchase a game though lol.

Call quality of the three phones are on par.

I have yet to try the loudspeaker...

Cant comment on battery life as I have yet to cycle the battery...

Havent tried the HDMI function yet, so I will update you guys on this...

That's it for now. Cheers!

Hey guys finally paid customs fee and got the phone today, just restoring stuff from galaxy S, titanium restore in process.

unlock code worked so happy. working fine on UK vodafone, connects@3G/H but speedtest sucks in my room so will try that when i'm out.

I thought the penTile matrix screen would suck but looks pretty good.

I add more info once i got my stuff on it
