Yea - instead of the turbocharger being bolted to the exhaust manifold in the engine bay, then feeding the exhaust gases back into the rest of the exhaust system, it's instead bolted to the end of the exhaust instead, pretty much dumping the exhaust gases straight out the back of the car
Picture it as replacing your rear silencer box with a turbocharger....
This does also mean you have to have a long intake tract running from the turbocharger at the back, to the intake system in the engine bay at the front, and a separate oiling system to lubricate and cool the turbocharger.
