Why. A car will happily drive itself in gear. The lack of grip just meant the wheels spin without the car moving.

Depends on the car, my Dads 1.6 focus and my old 1.2 Fiesta definitely stall, but my ST doesnt, it does move forward. I believe it's down to torque of the engine.

It'll go forward/not stall if it's on ice and the wheels have no traction to stop the engine

Even my 45bhp 1.0 Nova would do it with good enough clutch control. It's far easier in a Diesel as there's a lot more low down torque than a typical 16v Petrol engine.

same setup as mine gets interesting from 50 secs and keep an eye on his speedo it reads to 180 and it goes off it!
