That will be amazing to see, and the lap time will be very intresting

Doubt it. Car probably won't be running race spec tyres, and it's a demo so Schumacher is unlikely to be running at anything over 6/10ths for any great length of time.

7:29 to beat...

7:29, when the F1 record (set by Lauda in '75) around the track was a shade under 7 minutes and the track was over a mile longer (14.2 miles against 12.9). I believe the record for the current incarnation of the Nordschleife is still Bellof's 6:11.13 lap in the Porsche 956.

I'd love to see a modern F1 car going all out on the Nordschleife. But it ain't going to ever happen. Hell, the FIA would probably declare it a breach of the 'thou shalt not test your F1 car in-season, even though this is the alleged pinnacle of motorsport' rule....

I think the BMW lap included the GP loop too, whereas the Porsche one didn't?

Same with the older F1 times?

Either way, everything that lists those times says they are not comparable due to track changes.

But as modern F1 cars go, Heidfeld currently holds the fastest time.

Just for the record, Heidfeld didn't drive the full GP track, he drove the shorter 'Sprintstrecke' track, used for the 24 hours and the likes. It knocks 5 corners off the usual GP track, leaving the track before the downhill left-hander (where Massa and Alonso banged wheels in 2007) and rejoining the track after the fast chicane.

I've never understood why they cut that loop off for the 24 hours.

I get why they use the 'old' turn 1 and 2 cutting out turns 2 - 5 as it provides a large area for extra paddock vehicles. But why cut off that loop down the bottom of the track? It just sits there unused?

You're in luck :D

"MSC will get back behind the wheel of an F1 car on the Nurburgring Nordschleife next month, Mercedes has confirmed."

Still no indication that this will be a hotlap. For all we know yet it could be a simple demo run on rock-hard tyres, with the occasional squirt of throttle.

It's the 2011 car they can probably use whatever tyres they want.. (I wonder if he refused to drive that 2012 turd around it lol)

anyway it wont be a hotlap unless they can get an ambulance and fire engine on every corner and every straight

It won't be on race rubber. Pirelli race spec tyres are only available at official FIA race weekends and tests, and none of the previous years compounds exist, they get destroyed.

They will be on the "demo" tyre compounds, which I think is what is also used for straight line testing, which is rock hard and offers significantly reduced grip.

Pirelli set to put Formula One car up for online auction

The company’s motorsport director Paul Hembery said: ‘There doesn’t seem to be a lot of enthusiasm, it’s a bit of a shame really.

‘Our marketing department said nobody seems to want to use it. So I said let’s put it on eBay for charity.

‘Now we are trying to find a category on eBay for an F1 car.’

It's the 2011 HRT Formula One car.
