It's a shame, those new teams were really up agaisnt it from the outset and were probably not the best choices to begin with... Were always destined to fall short.

I would like to see at least one of the teams get on, by either a merger of the two or one of the big teams taking an interest for driver development means. I can't see it working another way.

The 3 new teams were chosen for political reasons, not because they actually showed potential as sustainable race teams.

Remember, not a single one of the 3 teams originally chosen made it to the grid in the same guise and when they were selected. The teams were struggling before they even got started.

but as skeeter says they can do that from the garage, there must be some other reason for it

Yeap they can do that from the garage but they may miss something quite crucial if they have to move from the garage to the pit wall, so they stay on the pit wall...

Oh yea definitely, it's still a shame to see. I'd like for there to be more teams, but ideally competetive teams.

It was always going to be a struggle... I think that was made worse with all those budget cap plans which never happened.

I would have liked the best teams to have been given the chance, but that's not what we got, so now we have the teams we have and it'd be good to see at least one stick around.

They got very close to merging over the winter.

Would surely be a move of desperation and a difficult one to get right and keep what sponsors they do have happy.

Instead we get what is pretty much a fight to the death over 10th place, they both so need that exra money :(

They said they were 1 signature away from doing it.

Marussia are basically a title sponsor of a team run by Manor, while Caterham are a constructor. I imagine they would have kept Caterham as the constructor, and put Marussia as a sponsor so they could keep the RBR gearbox and Renault engine partnerships.

Turning the team into Marussia Caterham - Renault?

they use headset + radio? they don;t plug their headset in on the wall?

The point is thAt they can leave two people on the pit wall so the most obvious ones to leave there are the two race engineers, giving a reasonable reason as to why the team principals are in the garage at the start of the race.

Photo of the Caterham during the straight line test, which was then cancelled.
