Circuit of Wales gets outline planning permission!

http://circuitofwales.com/
Fair play to them for getting this far with the proposal but realistically how is this going to be anything other than a white elephant?

Doesn't seem to be all that much money in running a race circuit, let alone recouping the £250 million they say it's going to cost to build the site!

They'll get all the usual domestic series go there BTCC, British Superbikes etc but can't see that making it pay.

They are aiming for World Championship events like MotoGP and WTCC.

I agree its going to be a money sink and will likely fail, but for the moment I am happy to just enjoy the refreshing surprise of a local authority not stamping out motorsport at every opportunity. Most of the UKs tracks are victims of increasingly tight regulations. A new track is a bit of a shock.

Fangio's F1 Mercedes to be auctioned

"A rare racing car driven by Formula 1 legend Juan Manuel Fangio could fetch more than £10m when it goes under the hammer, according to auctioneers.

The Mercedes-Benz W196, in which the five-times world champion clinched his second title, will be auctioned at Goodwood Festival of Speed later.

He drove the Mercedes to victory in the 1954 German and Swiss Grand Prix.

Bonhams think it could break the $16.4m (£10.8m) record price set in 2011 by a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa Prototype."

Are you neglecting the fact that Caterham/Lotus Racing have their origins the Litespeed F3 team?

No. And it's time for the utterly nerdy Lotus side of my brain to kick in... ;)

Lotus was originally declined entry to the 2010 F1 season as they wanted to enter under the budget cap F1 that was floating about in 2009 - $45million iirc. This team was indeed based upon the Litespeed team. But the Lotus license came from Tony Hunt not Group Lotus. They would have run as Team Lotus.

The Lotus Racing Team that raced, was not based upon the Litespeed team as the budget cap was scrapped and they were denied entry. So Litespeed sold the Lotus licence on to Fernandes newly formed 1Malaysia F1 Team and they were granted entry after USF1 pulled out. But, the major change was the aquisition of a license from Group Lotus so they could run as something other than Team Lotus, which turned out to be Lotus Racing.

However, in 2010 Litespeed did reach a commercial agreement with Lotus Racing. They ran in the Lotus Racing team colours and ran the Lotus Racing young driver programme.

*checks down back of sofa*

Damn. It's a new sofa. Not even a single penny. :(

So much want from me. Lets hope the person who buys it actually runs the car at events rather than sticking it in a collection away from the light. If I could afford it, I certainly would take it out as often as possible.
