Apparently Sauber - Honda deal to be announced quite soon.

Makes sense all round really. Honda get more miles on their engine, McLaren don't need to worry about a rival team beating them with a Honda engine and Sauber get a cheap deal with potentially a leading engine. Certainly more potential than a 2016 Ferrari with zero updates.

Not a chance it would be free.

But I'm certain they will move to providing an entirely digital platform for coverage of everything, probably with tiered pricing depending on the level of engagement you want.

Very cool to see.

Find it amazing however that he's missing the one F1 race where he has the greatest potential to drag that McLaren up the sharp end.

Also does that mean we get to see a return from JB? :D

I hadnt realised initially when i just heard the news re: Alonso, but he is driving a Mclaren entry in the Indy 500, not just driving for a another team within Indy 500.

Interesting to see McLaren branching out to other formula, with indy 500 would imagine to try and increase there roadcar influence in the states perhaps?

This is probably a one off to keep Alonso happy.

McLaren have partnered with Andretti's team to get Alonso a spot, but yes it will be McLaren Orange liveried. Makes sense for Honda as their engines are used here, very successfully too!

Yup, Fernando's been really impressive so far. Fingers crossed for the race.

In F1 news, the deadline for McLaren to switch engine suppliers just passed for 2018. So they'll be sticking with Honda, not switching to Mercedes as rumoured.

I hope he's allowed to push the car, not just pootle around. It'd be interesting to see what Renault will do if it turns out that he's right on the pace.

I think that's the whole point.

The comparisons aren't similar at all imo. Those contracts are made by the teams, if they only state a short amount of gardening leave, then they can only shoot themselves in the foot when their technical staff are poached.

The FIA should absolutely have a minimum of 1 year gardening leave or non-compete clause for someone in Budowski's position. Otherwise it's abusing a position of power and trust.
Not only 1 team's secrets are shared, but the entire grid.
It's 6 months until the start of next season, F1 teams can do an awful lot in that amount of time. McLaren only just agreed to use Renault engines next year..

It's difficult, we know they won't go back to V8/V10/V12's.

Manufacturer's want to develop hybrid tech, but FIA feel they need to restrict many areas to prevent spiralling costs and one engine manufacturer dominating.

Not sure what the solution is? Aero regs can easily be improved on however.

"Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne has said the team could quit Formula 1 if they do not approve of the direction taken by new owners Liberty Media"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/41857101

I have to agree with Marchionne.

Ferrari's main opposition is the threat of them losing their financial advantage in the sport, hence their faux mantra of leaving the sport.

If you read it, it mentions nothing about money but the power unit. That's why I agree with him. F1 will turn in to nascar.

He's not referring to it directly, but it's fairly clear given the context of the Liberty media statement and Ferrari's history on this subject.

The teams and FIA will likely compromise on the engines.
