Are people forgetting just how close Massa came to winning the 2008 title? I'm surprised not to see more positive posts.

He's not the driver he was, but how much of that is down to the Alonso factor and him becoming stale at Ferrari?

It would be interesting to see him in another consistent top-10 capable car and see what he could do. He's no worse than Perez and would probably be an OK teammate to Button, though I'd imagine they're talking Button replacement rather than Perez replacement?

How is it a surprise? The prevailing attitude on here has been "LOL MASSA SUCKS LOL" since Christ was a cowboy....

That's because he does suck :p , he came close to the 2008 title because Kimi turned up for 6 races per year at ferrari. Kimi won a title at ferrari despite always being close to the sack. Eventually they did have enough of his sub standard attitude. That's why I cannot understand Ferrari going back for Kimi, he made Massa look capable.

Hell Irvine came close to the title too and he also sucked. It's amazing how close you can get when you are in a great car and your team mate is injured in the legs or head. ;)

There was always talk Brawn walked because he wanted Alonso and not Kimi. They should have listened to Brawn.

I'd imagine that Massa's agent has contact Mclaren. NOT the other way around. I cannot honestly fathom why Mclaren would be interested in Massa, unless it's to replace Perez - but then Perez is bringing in Sponsor money and besides I would rather have Perez in my F1 team than Massa.

I personally would have gone with a picure of the Williams FW07D or 08B or the March 2-4-0...

Although the P34 is favourite of mine. :D

Didn't Jody Sheckter **** the P34 off as a "piece of junk"? Mainly because he realised that the non-standard size front tyres would never be developed as much as the 'normal' ones.

I'm not surprised at the general consensus but I just thought there'd be the odd positive comment in there.

I don't think he's a great driver, but I think the Alonso-factor (or post-Hungaroring-factor, or perhaps a combination of the two) makes him look worse than he is. He does lack the consistency to ever have another shot at the title, but I think he's more capable than has been shown in recent years, which is why I thought he'd be a decent team-mate for Button, and I feel they'd be quite evenly matched over a season.

Yeah, but that car was way faster than it seemed under Irvine, evidenced by Schumacher turning up in his first race back and going a second quicker than everyone else in qualifying and still comfortably being the fastest guy in the race despite driving around carrying a 1-stop fuel load to everyone else's 2-stop.
