Hope it does mean Hulkenberg gets the lotus seat, Maldonado will probably be snapped up by another team for the money. Personally don't think he should be in F1, maybe he will end up in another series somewhere else.

Well, it's looking ever more likely. Quantum are telling Lotus that they want Nico and that they should sign a contract with him ASAP. I would definitely be happy to see Maldonado out of F1.

Will we see a return to the 2013 spec for 2014?

I think the 2013 spec (metal belts, asymmetric construction) has been binned completely on safety grounds.

The 2014 tyres will be different to anything we have seen though, as they will need to cope with the increased torque of the 2014 engines.

I can see Maldonado in a Sauber next year. They'll need his $30m just to replace all the accident damage Sirotkin is going to cause.

Nah, Sirotkin won't cost Sauber a penny. He won't make the 107% so will have zero fuel, tyre or parts costs :p

They really shouldn't have left it so late!

Rumors are mclaren are considering magnusson.
Hmmm not sure how i feel about that. Maybe a longterm ggood thing.
It aldepends how good next years car is, im still not expecting much until 2015, so maybe a year before a proper chalenge would be good. Wasnt he extremly strong in the young drivers test earlier this year.

If they think he is good enough may as well go for it, let him learn as much as he can from Button and get him in while all the teams are starting fresh.

That said it would be a real shame for Perez, not sure he should have gotten that drive in the first place but he really hasn't been given a decent chance yet with that car being the way it's been.

I'd be amazed if that happens. They passed over Hulkenberg last year for Perez and his untold millions in sponsorship from Telmex/Carlos Slim. Now they're supposed to be eyeing a rookie and supposedly losing that sponsoship?

Can't see it myself.

Indeed, it took RG a long time to get to where he is now, a bit surprised he wasnt dropped, i wonder if perez would have/will follow/ed the same path?

wonder where maldanados millions will end up? bet he thought he would end up at lotus (he still could have course)

I think signing Pérez was a bit of a panic decision. He was performing reasonably well at that stage in the season, so I can sort of see why they thought he was worth the punt, but I definitely think that Hülkenberg would have been by far the better long-term choice. If I was in McLaren's position, I'd try to grab The Hulk for 2014 and get Magnussen into either Marussia or Force India for a year, then consider replacing Button with him for 2015 after Nico is settled. I imagine by now a contract with Lotus has already been signed, however.

Sauber could definitely use his money, but I reckon we could well see Maldonado at Force India in 2014... ;)

I just hope that is not the case. :(

i do think sauber most likely

if lotus have signed hulk then mclaren is the next most interesting
been a turbulent swap season this one

If Lotus haven't signed him then they're either bloody stupid or the early-2000s Michael Schumacher has become available. :p

Edit: You know, I think that Magnussen will be an odd case if he gets into F1. It seems that, like GP2, there's a bit of a champions' curse going on in FR3.5; Frijns, Wickens and Aleshin, the three champions prior to Magnussen, didn't make it into F1 but the runner-up in each year (Bianchi, Vergne and Ricciardo respectively) did. The last FR3.5 champion to end up in F1 is Giedo van der Garde, and he won the title back in 2008 before his full-time move into GP2. So it wouldn't surprise me too much if Vandoorne got the F1 seat and Magnussen was left with a reserve role somewhere. :p

How good are Lotus actually going to be next season - havent they lost a couple of top aero guys in the last 12 months , plus Kimi and his engineer

Just because they have the quantum money (which will of course be an improvement on this year lol), Im not convinced they will definitely still be up at the front of the grid more often than not.

Oh yeah I definitely think they're going to take a big step backwards, and probably end up fastest of the midfield.
