Yes, and it was not even lotus the car company.

Yes it was. It was Group Lotus, i.e. Dany Bahr.

And Renault sold the remainder of the team to Genii in December 2010.

The best thing about it was that the Lotus Cars deal went sour in 2011 too, meaning the team was running under the name Lotus Renault with no investment from either of those 2 companies.

I had a long reply written about crashing, and rage, and money, and being banned from Monaco and other things...

But then figured nobody is dense enough to genuinely think Maldonado is more deserving of a front running seat than Hulk, so concluded you are just fishing for an argument.

So I deleted it.

Maldonado does have that win from Spain last year, but it was "blind squirrel finding a nut" level of rarity. The Williams wasn't exactly crap in that race either.

Boullier has said there are contracts on the table for Maldonado and Hulkenberg. Depending on financial commitments - I suppose it's who pays up first, wins.

Fingers crossed for Hulkenberg.

Welcome to my world.

Everyone gets there in the end.

I've not had the time to follow the NNS recently.

Its a shame neither IndyCar or the Sprint Cup are available on UK TV without a subscription.

I noticed you didn't comment on Montoya going from Ganassi's Nascar team to Penske's Indycar team.

I didn't, mainly because I was too disappointed in Ganassi to even form a proper opinion of it. They've given him some pretty crappy equipment to try and ply his trade with in NASCAR. Hopefully he can return to winning ways with Penske in IndyCar.

He'll probably still make some Nascar appearances for Penske... I can see him being called up for Road America NNS for example.

ESPN outbid Sky, as far as I know (highlight shows of Pro Mazda and USF2000 will be on Motors TV). I get the impression that F1 will be entirely on subscription channels in the future though.

Edit: looks like another talented young British driver is getting a free test in the Indycar ladder series: www.britishformulaford.co.uk/harrison-scott-wins-road-to-indy-usa-test-prize/

Well, if he gets the seat at Lotus, then clearly Lotus, who know a lot more about F1 (and their financial accounts) than you or I, will have thought so. And ultimately, it's their opinion which counts.

Hulk is a decent driver. Certainly. But this thread is making him out to be some form of Messiah....which he is not. The one time he impressed me was when he got pole in Brazil (I think it was). This year he has done very well. Next year, driver weight will be crucial.

Maldo has a win under his belt, in a Williams car which is not a front runner. I hold a win in higher regard than a pole position.

Maldo brings money into the team which helps the team build a faster car, which in turn helps the team (including Grosjean) get better results. I think it is no secret that a faster car is more important than a faster driver.

If we are making a decision for the team, I think Maldonado would be a better option. Across the whole season, Maldo, his money + Grosjean, would score more points than Hulk + Grosjean.

It would be a brave team who would turn down Maldo's cash, especially when you consider that Renault/Lotus/Genii cant even afford to pay their lead driver.

I agree that if lotus can't pay KR they need maldanado just as much as the reverse
I'd rather have maldanado + money + Grosjean than hulk have Grosjean too.. Given the state of the balance sheet

If next years weight issue is as bad as some have suggested, no wonder Lotus will go for Maldonado. He brings money and they'll be able to run the car at the weight limit. No amount of talent that Hulk brings is going to compensate if the team can't run the car at that limit.
