Of couurse it wouldnt be easy, but he has nothing to lose. Everyone knows how hard it is.
I cant see him going there next year now, which means hes basically given up the best available seat on the grid.
It was a win win opotunity. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

Surely there was everything to lose? If he left for Lotus wouldn't that **** off Sauber and burn his bridges there so if Lotus didn't take him next year it would be Force India or nothing.

No, threes three seats and realisticaly only three drivers. Hulk, mald and perez.
Its who gets what.
Hes basically blowen his chance at the best seat, imo perez is now favorite for the lotus seat.
Hulk will have no choice but to stay aspt sauber now. Which lets be honest isnt a great choice.

Oh god Hulk has just gone down in my view.
No top race bitting at the bit would have that view. They would go in convinced they could win.

Not in an unfamiliar car. Grosjean has thousands of miles experience in the E21 and helped developed the car. Hulk might get a straight line test if he's lucky, and would have to hope that he fits in the car.

Witness Fisi when he subbed at Ferrari. Well off the pace, but better than Badoer.

I really wish Glaucas used his old name and didn't type on touch screens anymore - his posts used to be so much better.

Anyway, Hulk would have been made look like a donkey if he went to Lotus now, he knows it, everybody knows it and clearly Lotus weren't willing to see it as favour to give him a seat next year but more as an audition - which is ridiculous.

It's like turning up to a trade show for an interview, you have to sell alongside the guys who have been there for years, but we won't tell you anything about the product, just wing it when you get there - I'm sure it'll be fine, and if you fail, you suck and will never work in the industry again.

You should remove the 'post' button on his account and make him at least preview first ;)

Tonnes of people use pads on here without so many issues. Lazy :D

Rafael Ramírez, Minister of Petroleum and Mining and President of PDVSA, confirmed yesterday at a press conference that the company withdrew its sponsorship of Team Williams and Pastor Maldonado will go to Lotus in 2014

****!

****, ****, ******* **** **** **** and **** **** Maldonado and ******* PDVSA can go **** a ****!

A shame, hulk lost his only chance by not finishing the year with lotus, was still hoping Perez would have been a better contender now he's free.

How would 2 weekends in the car for Hulkenberg have swayed Lotus away from Loldonados money? It would only serve to damage the Hulks reputation when being compared again Grosjean, who is performing the best he ever has, in both a car and team he is completely unfamiliar with. Look at Fisi when he joined Ferrari a couple of years ago. He went from a second place in the FI to nowhere in a Ferrari which was scoring points in Kimis hands.

Lotus seem that desperate for cash Kim Kardashian probably could have slipped them some money for a go. She could probably afford to buy a ******* superlicence too these days.

I'm so close to being done with F1. Really am.

Maybe, but I'm not convinced that he'd be further up the grid in a Lotus than he would be in a Sauber or a Force India.

The 2013 Lotus is of course very good, but how much of that can be carried over into 2014, and with their lack of resources and the personnel who have left, they're bound to move backwards.

I think it would have been a sideways step for 2014, and anyway Hulkenberg was better served holding out for 2014 than potentially damaging his reputation by qualifying a Lotus in 15-18th in Austin. He might have got his foot in the door, but that would have made sod all difference if Lotus didn't have the money survive the season by turning down Maldonado's millions.

Why, because I think hulk was the odds on favourite for that seat, until he refused the drive, then he had zero percent chance, put there abck up and annoyed them.

Money from sponsor is one thing, but Hulk is the better driver and thus would have got loads more money from constructors championship.

No chance. If PDVSA are involved, it means there was no funding for Hulk in the first place and he'd end up being ditched after the two races.

Lotus' problem is they have no money now. Maldonado will solve that.

Any constructors points the Hulk would potentially have scored wouldn't have paid out until December 2014.

Maldanado on his own, does not bring in enough money to run a team, lotus is far from no money either.

When they were with Williams it was rumoured to be worth £25million.

Does this also mean the quantum sponsorship deal is off, and they wanted Hulk. even Boullier said he wanted Hulk and it hinged on the 5year quantum sponsorship, which I thought was actually signed.
So i don't see why you guys think lotus are so desperate for the money and hulk was for only two races.

Everything pointed to the opposite. That it was hulks seat and finically secured.
