I'm glad it has been rejected, no doubt they could do with saving money, but this seemed like a stupid idea and likely wouldn't make much difference.

It made no sense. They were making the assumption that teams could turn up Thursday and setup Friday, but that would mean they would also have to kill all the support races on Friday too. Can't have forklifts in the pit lane while GP2 and GP3 are qualifying!

I don't get the tyre blanket idea either. Yeah sure they wouldn't make much difference if they weren't there, but I can't see how not running a few heated blankets for a few hours can be seen as a way to reduce any significant cost? Unless there is some massive nuclear reactor heating the tyres through diamond cables somewhere that I've missed, I don't see how it's a cost saving?

Its mad, the McLaren brand centre takes 2 solid days of work to put together as it is, asking them to do it in less time while canceling support races is just bonkers.

The teams only floated an idea as extremely stupid as that as it had no chance of ever getting ratified. Had some relatively sane cost cutting measure been mentioned it would have upset the status quo and the outcome would have been a different story, especially for the bigger teams.

It's the fact the FIA feel the need to regulate this stuff in that's pathetic. First it was trombone exhaust, now its regulated spark makers. What's next? Overtake buttons and random penalties... oh.

OK, how about the FIA do something intelligent with this. Remove the plank and replace it with small skid blocks to mandate ride height. They get their theatre sparks, but they also remove the keel board that is the main reason an F1 car is undriveable in rain.

In 'stupid rules' news, from 2015 cars will resume from a standing start after safety car periods.

That'll speed everything up then, and not breed more safety car periods after T1 accidents.

May as well just red flag immediately and give us more racing laps then, no?

At least by doing that instead of having cars parade around behind the safety car it would probably allow the cars/debris to be cleared away much sooner because the marshals wouldn't have to hop off-track every time the train comes around. I was pretty happy with the safety car rules as they were, though...

For a few laps a SC is fine, but what looks like a long safety car period where we lose 10 laps of the race then it makes sense (in terms of marshal safety and getting more racing laps in).

To be fair, the most exciting bit about a race is the starts.

Still a stupid idea. Still waiting for the track water sprays to come into play.

Wait... What?

A standing start from the grid after a safety car? So they have to trawl around the track slowly for a number of laps before having to stop on the grid and effectively start the race all over again?

Just red flag the damn thing, but extend Parc Ferme to include this time so they can't swap bits of the car or do too many tweaks, also not allow them to change tyres either.

Exactly. Either keep the SC as it is, or red flag it whenever they would usually SC it. Having the SC trundle around and then making them do a standing start is 100% uber epic totally retarded stupid.

The main problem with the safety cars rules at the moment is the slower cars being allowed to overtake to filter to the back, just take that out and it'd improve things.
