It is easy to sort out, scrap the turbos and H-ERS but keep K-ERS, bolt 2 of the V6s together and revel in the sound of V12s again. This way the cost of the V6's isn't a wasted cost and we get v12s again - win win!

Perfect solution :D

Ferrari\Honda(via McLaren and Merc are in the Strategy Group. So that's 3. Who else I don't know.

The strategy group is the top 6 teams. The engine suppliers not reprisented by themselves, they are reprisented by association.

Sure some of them are one and the same with their engine suppliers, and others are heavily in bed with them, but the engine suppliers don't have a direct say, or a say that can be disconnected from a teams opinion.

What if Renault don't agree with what Horner wants, for example. Or Honda don't agree with what Boulier wants to vote on? There also 3 Mercedes teams compared to only 1 each for Renault, Ferrari and Honda.

Q-"And are the FIA going to vote for it? There’s six votes probably against."

A-"Well we have six so if we have four teams want to do that that’s ten. There’s 18 votes so that’s the majority"

That's what bernie says? Not long now to find out.

3 of the teams are Mercedes and one is Honda. Assuming the engine manufacturers can strong arm them then Bernie only has 2 teams likely to back him. In other interviews he has stated that Ferrari are now supporting the V6, so in reality its going to be Bernie and Horner alone, if Renault let him.

I didn't say they were unpredictable, I said they were uncontrollable. Whatever the cost the team has no choice - they HAVE to have the engine. Other costs are more discretionary.

However, there is no evidence to show that the engine costs have risen uncontrollably. They are barely more expensive than last year and in some cases the cost is less than it was 12 years ago.

So you think that Horner is a knuckle dragger as his the one that started it all by saying
"the development of these engines have cost $1bn and counting" "and we should think about going back"

Even bernie says the same and most of the race promoters.

Christian is suffering a bad case of sour grapes. With the previous engine freeze the Renault unit had several advantages over the opposition in terms of packaging and cooling that couldn't be matched which helped substantially with the aero on the car. Now that is gone he thinks everything is unfair and is having a strop.

Red Bull have got some of the stolen trophies back.

Christian Horner: "It's good news that some of our trophies have been found and thanks to the police for all their help so far. The fact that some of the trophies were discarded in a lake and damaged shows how senseless this crime was. While the trophies mean an enormous amount to the team, their intrinsic value is low – and the extent of the damage that was caused to the factory by the offenders during the break-in was significant. Hopefully we can get the trophies back to our factory where they belong and get replicas made of those that we can't. Thanks to everyone involved for their help so far."

I wonder if it was all Webber's trophies that they found in the lake? Might be a hardcore Vettel fanboy that's pinched them all.

The fact remains that they:

a) are more expensive, especially with all the extra PU components required
b) the costs are uncontrollable, as there's no discretion over whether or not to pay for the engines

Engines represent a significant fixed cost to a team's budget. If that cost increases, even by a relatively small margin, then either income has to increase to cover it or other costs need to reduce. If there's insufficient discretion in other costs - staff, development etc - then there's not enough money.

For the record I do like the new V6s. The impact of increases to fixed and uncontrollable costs though, as with the tyres, should be properly understood though.

It is understood. I can guarantee that every team knows exactly how much their engine bill is for next season. A lot will likely know the cost for the next few seasons due to multi year deals.

How many teams can state exactly how much they will spend on aero for the next few years?

You seem to think that engine suppliers have a random number generator and can turn up on day 1 of the season and demand 1 billion dollars for their engines. They can't.

While for some teams its a painfully large amount, engine costs are stable compared to other costs, and easily forecasted.

And if anyone is somehow surprised that these new complex engines cost more than their 8 year old predecessors then they need their head checked.

With the trophy theft, I am wondering if there was one particular one stolen to order, and the rest were taken to hide the specific one that was taken?
Was much else taken in the break in?

Nothing else was noted as being stolen, but then there isn't much else in reception. There's a shop but all the stock is locked away at night, and that's about it.

I expect they have realised that they are replicas and pretty worthless so are ditching them.
