Yep. Every other sport person does everything completely and entirely alone without help from anyone else ever.

McIlroy has a coach, physio, caddy and equipment tailored to him which EVERY top golfer has. He also has to beat hundreds of rivals in every single tournament. This year he won 4 tournaments, including 2 of the 4 major titles, as well as the race to Dubai and was voted PGA player of the year and European Tour player of the year

Mercedes have thousands working for them and he had equipment miles better than everyone else and only one real rival to beat.

And how many people work for the golfist equipment manufacturers? They've got R&D labs and materials engineers like Mercedes. Makes no odds if it's a vehicle or a stick you hit a ball with, it's still equipment.

The comparison is nothing like the same. Everyone at the top can have access to the clubs if they desire, same with football. It's not like Beckham had boots to give him a 50% increase in speed and accuracy over his rivals :D

Oh well it's always controversial no matter who wins it. :) You have a woman there who dedicated her life to teaching disabled people to swim and was going on at 77. Then you have an F1 driver who earns millions, sodded off to avoid tax and got a plug in for his lady boys stage show. I'd rather they gave the main award to the 77 year old :p

Even without the post it quoted i think skeeters comment is the most sarcastic post ive ever read on the internet. Or maybe i just read every post on here with added sarcasm mixed in. :p

Forgetting all the SPOTY stuff how utterly ridiculous is it that 1200 people are putting two cars round the track 18 times per year. I didn't know it was that many. I find that hard to accept knowing how many people for example an airline employ to put on over a 1000 flights per day, maintain, monitor and fly a fleet. :D

Or clearly a sarcastic post, look at the post he's quoting.

I'm shocked it took so long for someone to realise! You guys need to lighten up :p

So I take it you phoned up and voted for the 77 year old?

No idea why Lewis won SPOTY in 2014 beating aside Mcilroy who had a truely great year... Yet in 2009 Button came second to... Ryan Gigss

Arguably Button has a better personality too!

I got it wrong. James Allen was on about the Merc spending in engines design..opps.

Have all your comments this year about the V6s engines been based on a belief that it costs each team $150m for a years supply of engines?

It would explain why you keep stating a cost of $1bn, and are furiously opposed to them. I think most people would be if they thought engine costs had increased by 3,000% ($5m to $150m)!

and build said fleet, and do R&D for said planes being built?

In other terms how many people do you think it would take to run a mercedes customer team where Mercedes literally sell everything to them, you could have 50 people run a second team, they would still rely on the first 1200 but the second team would be drastically smaller yet offering the same thing. It's simple when you buy everything from the other companies who design, build, test and upgrade the products for you.

EDIT:- looks like Airbus employ north of 60k people, so add that to the employee count of any carrier that buys planes off them, and the entertainment systems companies, and the fuel companies and the guys who build the tires and....... you get the picture.

I think people forget its personality not achievements.

Its public votes, so in reality is just whoever the public watching the show like most.

Its not about 1 person though. The show has always been more about showcasing British sport as a whole.

Chris Hoys lifetime achievement award was a great choice, for example. The roads around me are litterally jammed full of MAMILs every weekend because of him and his team mates. Actually, no, wait, that's not a good thing!

Does it showcase British sport? I know it used to but for me the format now is 99% the main nominees. As someone mentioned above Ronnie barely ever gets a mention and is the greatest player to pick up a cue, Carl Fogarty used to get a hello, you could even say Bestwick who has won multiple titles on a BMX and has suffered and will suffer more injuries than 99.9% of all F1 drivers yet probably doesn't even get an invite.

I know there's only so much they can out in, as I said these things always bring out the debates, the timing of the end of the championship helps and similar when giggs won it you are always onto a hiding when the great british public has to vote on anything other than the X factor.

I wonder when he'll get his knighthood. They seem to be giving them out to anyone now. I still don't know how Wiggins got one...
