So they've cut testing to ram more races in at tracks nobody cares about?

It's easy to understand. The big teams won't do any cost cutting so FIA will kick them were it hurts(testing)

It's just another bargaining chip for the FIA. "you want testing? Cut costs"
"you won't cut costs? No testing" If they want to let the youngsters test then use a 2013 car.
 
Yes, I'm sure all the Mercedes engined teams are reeeally upset that there is less testing for Honda, Ferrari and Renault to catch up...
 
With all the other tight controls in place testing is an opportunity to.. well.. test and increase performance and reliability ahead of the season to perform at the best you can. Restricting testing this way will only make things worse!

I'm biased - I've been to Jerez testing the last two years, loved both trips and was planning to go again in 2016. I'm royally ****ed off that Jerez has been dropped. It is a great town, inexpensive and the circuit is close enough to be really easy. Barcelona on the other hand is expensive and the circuit is miles away.

Not happy.

Well, that's what they've said anyway. Whilst I'm a big fan of the Singapore grand prix as a spectacle, I can't really see how that's going to influence overtaking at all.

Most of the overtaking is in sector 1 really, sectors 2 and 3 there's hardly ever been any overtaking opportunities. I enjoy Qually around Singapore, it's a properly good challenge for the drivers, the race is usually quite decent as well.
 
The rear wing was made higher and thinner in order to reduce downforce created by the rear wing. This then (theoretically anyway) allowed a following car to get closer without losing aerodynamic efficiency. Making the wing wider and lower will just bring about the same issues F1 cars have always had, being able to get close enough to the car in front to be able to overtake. I guess the loss of the Monkey Seat and reworking of the diffuser will mean overall downforce isn't increased.
 
Liking that lower wider rear wing. From what I've seen everyone appears to agree that ground effect would allow similar/more downforce whilst having the cars follow closely. I just don't get why this doesn't seem to be an option being considered, we could have low wide wings, nice shallow wings (think Monza spec) with the downforce from ground effect. Cars are faster, cars look better, cars follow closely - everyone's a winner?!
 
Because that's a sensible option, and the FIA are idiots.

Simple front wings, wider cars, wider tyres and ground effects has always been the answer. The FIA are just stuck in the dark ages.
 
I thought ground effect was now being considered? I remember reading about it (Autosport has an article about it in any case), although whether this is being seriously considered at the top I'm not sure. The article suggests that it's a Red Bull proposal.

Yep they need to remember why they changed them a few years ago.
