If Sky put adverts during the F1 race, then would any of you think twice about continuing the subscription?
It's hilarious to see how much adverts are shown on Sky, and people can be paying £80 a month to watch them... Paying to be advertised to, when you're already watching some mobile billboards, follow each other closely round a track. No thanks!

If your paying £80 a month to just watch F1 then your beyond saving tbh.

Ah ok... Can't say I'd complain at the prospect of a full season on terrestrial TV!

Wonder if any of the presenters will have a move around.

This is bad news for Sky viewers. The only reason Sky doesn't have ads is because BBC don't. If ITV put ads in the race you can guarantee Sky will want to do it too.

I don't think they will. They have a format which works and generates revenue with a multitude of advert breaks throughout their programming already. Over an entire race weekend, before, during and after practice sessions they have them and during pre and post race coverage there are tons of adverts, but not during the race. They can go 90 minutes without having to show one. They'd face a massive social media backlash and lose viewers if they were to do that - people would be incensed and figure that they'd rather cancel their sky sports subscription altogether and just watch ITV's coverage. The world has changed since ITV last ripped Formula 1 apart with their ill-timed ad breaks.

Skys coverage isn't advert free. It was in the first year, but it isn't any more.

They never show an advert when BBC also have a broadcast running. But for the races the BBC don't have live there are adverts right up to the start of the race, and in between the sessions in qualifying. When the BBC have a 1 hour build up and Sky have a 90 minute one, the first half hour of the Sky show will have loads of ad breaks in it.

Sky's advertising policy is shaped around their rival broadcasters coverage.

No they don't.

Yes

Someone posted on here a while back the SSF1 advertising strategy. Basically they never show an ad break while the BBC have F1 on, but whenever BBC don't they fill the time with as much adverts as possible. It was some documentation published for prospective advertisers.

They have adverts during the practice sessions too, but that's less of an issue to most of us.

Bizarre, I've had a long day and I'm still working since 9am so maybe I'm not thinking clearly on it but I don't recollect Sky ever going to an ad break in between the Qually sessions, all I can seem to remember is a load of shots of the drivers in the garages, interviews with drivers having been eliminated and waffle between Lazers and co. before cutting back to Crofty and Brundle in the commentary box before the next Q session. Either way I've not found Skys placement of adverts to be annoying at all - and I don't for one minute think they'll ruin the races by placing adverts in them.

My point was just to highlight that Skys advertising is currently restricted due to the BBC coverage. They design their advertising packages around it. If ITV get the coverage then they no longer have that restriction, so it will hardly be surprising if Sky up their in program adverts.

After all, they have gone from no adverts and free with the HD pack, to adverts whenever BBC aren't on and only available with the full Sky Sports pack within a couple of years. They are clearly in it for as much money as they can get, which is hardly surprising.

Sky F1 viewers are down by 20% this year. Maybe if those people don't resign backup to sky F1 then I can see adds coming.

If ITV are showing F1 next season then maybe they can overlay adds during the race?

I genuinely can't see Sky putting ads on mid-race. We all have terrible memories of ITV's shambles, so it would be suicidal for Sky to suddenly do that.

I see this as an opportunity for Sky to get more viewers by being the 'only channel in the UK you can watch F1 advert free', it's an excellent USP.

And if they have adverts? Well then who's going to bother subscribing to Sky - if we're going to watch F1 with mid-race ads then we may as well get it for free.

Being the only place you can watch all the races live hasn't resulted in people flocking to Sky.

Most F1 viewers are casual veiwers who will just watch ITV. I don't expect it will see any real shift in viewers, it will just see a rise in complaints about adverts.

Or, ITV could decide to not put adverts on in the race either. And pigs might fly :p.

Well, after their last efforts backfired, maybe they will? What race was is that was so exciting they put off putting the ads until the last few laps and as they were contractually obliged to, we missed the last couple of amazing laps.
What race was that again?
