That would have been funny, if it wasn't the case that the 2004 Ferrari would have qualified 3rd and 4th last weekend, while weighing 100kg less with twice the engine capacity and 100bhp more than the Mercedes' in front of it.

But in 2004 cars qualified with the race fuel for the first stint. Indeed the fastest race lap was quicker than the pole lap, and 5 seconds faster than the fastest lap in 2016.

Well going to follow v8sc as well only £23 for the season, just watching the first race now,
If anyone interested https://www.v8supercars.com.au/superview-videos/

Puts f1 to shame, especially the NHL which I've also signed up for. Which if there's a premium broadcaster in your region, you can't watch it for 48hrs but has all the games etc available in demand.
I'm sure f1 could sort something out as and when contracts come up fir renewal. Shouldn't be surprised, takes them so long to embrace any tech.

The last 10+ laps of the 2nd race at Adelaide are absolutely brilliant. Well worth checking out.

I think I'm going to sign up for that too, didn't realise it was that cheap!

I'll watch them all, there's only the 3 races from Adelaide so far, next race weekend is this weekend. I have no idea of rules or what's going on.

Its great, as I said signed up for NHL(ice hockey) as well and that's cheap £8 fir the rest of the season. And whole season is only $80.
Both full OD of all sessions.

At no point would the 2004 cars have ever come anywhere close to the 702kg minimum weight of the 2016 cars. At most they may have hit about 650kg if they went for a long fuel stint, while the 2016 cars start the race at over 800kg, 100bhp+ down, and on tyres they were nursing through a 1 stop strategy.

With comparable rules the 2016 cars would out perform any previous era of F1 car. F1 does not need faster cars, and trying to make them faster is just going to make the racing worse.

2004 averaged 12 overtakes a race, 2015 averaged 30. I know which I'd rather watch.

Which only just goes and proves how much aero grip the cars have now than before, even after supposedly now having smaller wings, than before.

We all want close fun entertaining racing with plenty of action and overtaking, very easily achieved by banning wings, or at the very least halving (as a minimum) every dimension of the current ones, and banning all the little winglets and addons here and there.

That sounds like a very sensible idea. Lets see if the FIA agree...

*opens 2017 F1 aero regulations*

...Oh, no, they have done the exact opposite! :(

Have you seen Ecclestones latest excrement to come out of his mouth?

Bernie Ecclestone says drivers "shouldn't even be allowed to talk" and are only interesting in making money from Formula One.

Really!! This is the biggest case of pot calling the kettle black that I have ever seen. It's parasites like him that are destroying the sport. They should be listening to the drivers more not spouting nonsense like this. This idiot has to go along with Todt and Whiting. Story here.

Actually, Bernie making money is good for F1, as half of what he makes (for FOM) gets fed back into the teams.

What F1 needs is someone in Bernies position keeping FOM firmly in the black. What F1 no longer needs however, is Bernie.

I wonder what Massa and Grosjean were thinking?

They are going to be screwed if the Aggregate Qualifying is voted in and they make it to Q3, they will be forced to trash all those shiny new Super Softs they have stacked up.

I know people moan about the money not being "fairly" split, but I actually think Manor getting £47m for basically not bothering to try and compete is a bit cheaky.

Especially when you realise that the £10m bonus payment for new teams won't be paid to Haas this year because Bernie doesn't think they need it.
