I'm pretty sure it was Bernie pushing to ensure Le Mans clashed with F1 as he didn't want his exclusive super stars moonlighting in another 'lesser' series, boosting its popularity. After all, "who will watch the end of Le Mans?".

So Bernie has signed a contract with Imola to host the Italian GP from 2017

Part of me is like "Yay Imola :)", while part of me is like "No, Monza :(". Although I'm pretty sure this is a Donington-esque move designed to get Monza to sign.

Hopefully Monza hurry up and sort it for next year and have Imola as the San Marino GP. Replace one of the many **** tracks with it.

Looks like the best we can hope for is an alternating deal like Germany.

Its going to be such a shame to lose Monza. Hasn't it hosted an F1 race every year since F1 began?

You'd think it'd be one that F1 would be keen to keep Monza. Yet more proof that Gnome's only interest is money.

Well yes, that is after all what he's employed to do, make money.

And F1 teams don't pay the bills with herarige and nostalgia...

The Italian GP (as with the British GP) has been held every year, but hasn't always been held at Monza. 1980 was the exception being held at Imola.

If the FIA are abandoning F1's heritage, they're surely going to abandon the payment to their favourite historic team? (Ferrari)

It's not like they really need it.

Well yes but you'd think he'd try and cut a deal with them as it's a historic track instead of saying "this is the going rate, pay it or sod off". Whether they pay £30m or £50m, Bernie is still making a nice bit of cash.

Someone had to go. I think he will go back to Renault.

Someone didn't have to go, they've been focused on the 2017 car for 2 years, you can't make dramatic comebacks against a team as strong as Mercedes that has made a car as ridiculously strong as it is. But new car, new regulation period, that is when the big changes mostly happen in terms of running order.

I suspect the real story is Allison needs to be at home, he's not been to races since his wife's death and he's apparently been travelling a lot between his home and Ferrari's base on Italy which is ideal for no one.

Most likely Allison decided to leave and Ferrari being a publicly traded company and not wanting to say publicly that they are losing a crucial member of the team which looks nothing but bad, asked Allison to play along with a story that changes were needed for the good of the team and probably gave him a bigger pay off for going with that story.

I think you're probably right. Still doesn't bode well for 2017...sigh a few more barren years for ferrari I suspect.

So tomorrow the Strategy Group will meet to vote on putting the Halo in the 2017 regulations. A unanimous vote is required.

Current feeling is that Bernie, RBR, Williams and McLaren will all vote against it based on the design being rushed, not fully tested, and the response being a knee jerk reaction that doesn't solve the issues it was designed too.

Yet it also seems like the FIA will just ignore that, and push it though on safety grounds regardless.

LolF1 :(

I hope they abandon it in favour of looking at another solution. If you think it looks bad in pictures wait until you see it in person. It is horrible.
