More importantly with the new calander...

Revised F1 2017 calendar avoids Le Mans clash

But of course with Audi now out there's less/no chance of a Hulkenberg-esque move with a third car, as there are now six top class Audi drivers without immediate commitments in LMP1. Makes me wonder if this is connected in that the date would not have been changed if Audi remained in LMP1.

Bernie is more likely to run a marathon than the Monaco GP getting dropped. It's the jewel in the crown of F1.

You personally might not like the track, but here's what the FIA think :
"One place, in particular, has played a role in motor sport that is really unique. A place which has contributed not just a formidable challenge to drivers and machines, not just an exceptional location of glamour and prestige, but a place which has hosted more FIA World Championship events than any other place in the world.

That place is Monaco. Since 1911 Monaco has played a crucial role in the development of rallying. And the Monte Carlo Rally remains the most famous single event in the World Rally Championship. Since 1922 the Principality has hosted arguably the world’s most famous motor race, the Monaco Grand Prix. This event, acknowledged by the world’s greatest drivers to be the event they all want to win, has witnessed the best that motor sport can be.

A triumph of speed and control, of precision and daring; around streets that forgive no error; that require relentless effort and concentration. No better place to demonstrate the talents of drivers like Moss, Fangio, Senna and Schumacher."

"I'm sure it would be a great F1 season. He's got the best people to help him run F1, they really are the best. No one else has better people to help them run F1. No one. F1 would be an unbelievable success."

It speaks volumes about the thoughts of the German F1 fan that they can't get excited for a German world champion in a German team. Really you'd think Mercedes would want a German race, if only for next season and they'd step in.

Boggles the mind why people want Monaco removed, do you really want more tilke run off arenas. Its both iconic, barriers mere mm from the track and a massive driver challenge.
We need more variety in tracks not less.

Agreed. It's not quite the same since they opened up St Devote and the 2nd part of the swimming pool, but it's still the biggest challenge on the calendar.

The haters complain that you can't overtake, and that's largely true, but sod the overtaking for one weekend a year - I like to see the drivers threading the needle through the streets, the top drivers dancing their cars.

For the purists there is no better weekend.

For qualifying when they are actually trying to go as quickly as possible it is a challenge, but for the race you can only go as fast as the guy ahead and if the guy at the front wants to go half speed with no challenge there is almost nothing the guy behind can do.

The race isn't really a challenge outside of wet conditions as avoiding mistakes on a track with such narrow margins is a challenge. Even then it's still limited by the guy ahead. IIRC Ricciardo went something like 6 seconds faster in his lap after Hamilton pitted. That is how much faster per lap he was yet he never looked close to passing Hamilton.

The entire weekend has pretty much 3 meaningful laps for the top 10 drivers in qualifying and a Sunday procession.

12 of the last 23 seasons have been won by a German. 10 of the last 17. I am not surprised they have lost interest. Also Rosberg is arguably the least charismatic of the 3 Germans to have won who is quite dethatched from the country having not actually lived there. Vettel before him was very private and in this day and age fans want interaction and accessibility.
