Today is a little bit of a sad day as the 2016 FIA WEC season has come to an end, so now it’s a long wait till the first round in April at Silverstone. It’s been a fantastic season with plenty of up’s and downs. What I do find interesting is Porsche No.2 has won the championship this year even though they have won nothing since LeMans. In many ways, much more exciting that F1 now as they seem to be flat out for the whole 6 or 24 hours.

Audi have led from start to finish today and in a way, it’s a lovely ending to their time in the WEC / Endurance Racing and it’s great that they have finished 1st and 2nd today. Along with that it’s sad to see it was Mark Webbers last race today and much like Audi you can see the emotions running high today. :(

The results from today are as follows (LMP1):
1. Audi – No8
2. Audi – No7
3. Porsche – No1

However, congratulations to Porsche for winning both the drivers (Dumas, Jani and Lieb) and manufactures championships. So, that’s two years in a row now. :D

Roll on for the 2017 season as the current rumour is Toyota and Porsche will both run 3 cars on the LMP1. I really hope that Nick Tandy will be promoted to the LMP1 team to replace Webber to join Hartley and Bernhard.

singapore organisers no longer want a grand prix then. must feel theyve advertised the country enough. shame as i like it. much better than monaco and the best street track there is.

BTCC silly season well under way as well:

Sam Tordoff leaving the BTCC, despite coming so close to champion last year:

Andrew Jordan switching to yet another team:

And most surprise move, Matt Simpson joining Honda/Dynamics team (although still running under his own banner). Hope he does well, as thoroughly nice guy the couple of occasions I met him, and towards the end of last season was showing some good potential (although plagued with reliability issues, that the tie-up with Dynamics should solve):

It's crazy that even government backed races are starting to feel the pinch and pulling out. Two races down in the Far East, Germany potentially being dropped. Again. Italy only getting a couple of years extension. We'll be down to 17 or 18 races soon! If Chase Carey wants more races then he's going to have to look at the hosting fees because at the moment there doesn't seem to be any places lined up to replace these races that are being dropped.

This could be a good thing to be fair. More of these tracks need to stand up to F1 and actually get what could be considered a good deal. Don't most tracks have to pay to have F1 there?

Yup, the idea for most of these new races is that it acts as a giant billboard for tourism in their country, and to a much lesser extent powerful people coming to race which can help with trade deals.

To be fair I wouldn't mind visiting a few countries that F1 has opened to me, but I personally am put off by the usually ridiculous heat and/or humidity. I'm not one that copes well with excessive heat!

Damn I had missed that F1 was moving to Sky Sports in 2019.... 2 more years of F1 for me after which I hope it gets streamed!

It could well be on Sky Sports Mix, which I think is available to everyone.

There is something wrong with the WEC scoring when a car can win at LeMans and then fail to even get onto the podium for any of the subsequent races, yet win the championship.

There are some rumours that Joest will be taking the R18 chassis and building an LMP1-L with a different powertrain.
