Motorsport Off Topic Thread

I only started to actually think he was one of the very best since joining Ferrari. Which is ironic seeing as I hated them before, but now think they are ok. Mainly down to the change at the top.

sarcasm - the use of remarks which clearly mean the opposite of what they say, and which are made in order to hurt someone's feelings or to criticize something in a humorous way

according to the cambridge dictionary

but maybe you think bernie does whats in the best interest of the circuits , the fans and the teams

are you for real? i say your comment about bernie doing what is best for the sport was lol-worthy and now you think i believe that bernie does whats best for the sport?

also, i'm not 5, i know what sarcasm is but my opinion differs so much from yours most of the time that i just assumed you honestly believed that bernie was doing what was best for the sport. dont forget that its almost impossible to determine the tone of the speaker on a forum, so al i had to go on was your post history, which is full of opinions i think are ridiculous but you firmly believe. i've got nothing against you for them though because everyone is entitled to their opinion :)

Fixed the sarcasm issue.

well, we have two examples now :p
if you're wondering, here's the quote from skeeter: "Schumacher not being in the wrong grid slot."

i could trawl through old posts of yours and come up with loads of examples of your opinions that i believe are ridiculous but frankly i have better things to do with my time (especially with an exam retake in a few days)

i could post some BS on here about you to with nothing to back it up with aswell ....

remember when you said de la rosa was the greatest grand prix driver never to win a race ? :D

Don't know how many of you keep up with sportscar racing, but Grand-Am is going to merge with ALMS.

Or rather, Grand-Am will swallow the ALMS whole. Call me pessimistic, but I don't see any crossover between the Daytona "Prototypes" (which are barely faster than the ALMS GTs) and the Le Mans Prototypes. There are only a handful of LMPs in ALMS as it is and there will be none when this is over.

The current ALMS GT cars could easily be slowed down to fit in the GA GT classes but I reckon the works and factory-backed teams (Corvette, BMW RLL, Flying Lizard, etc.) will jump to WEC to guarantee Le Mans invites.

NASCAR takes a tighter grip on American motorsport :(

ALMS has been dying a slow death for years tbh. Grand Am is bigger over there so it makes sense to put the focus behind them. The WEC GT class will benefit from some different manufacturers too.

GA is only going well because it has been propped up as part of the NASCAR family. They could be going into next season with only one DP team not receiving funding directly from GA.

EDIT - Not including the Ganassi cars. But Ganassi is pally-pally with the France family anyway.

You're right about ALMS though; it has been going downhill ever since the heydays of Audi/Porsche/HPD in prototypes and Corvette/Aston/BMW/Ferrari/Porsche in GT. The ILMC/WEC and Speed dropping the tv rights were simply final confirmations.

As far as I know Sebring is run under IMSA regulations, which would mean post-merger it will only be a WEC round if Grand-Am give their consent. I doubt that personally (both GA and FIA would want to be "in full control"), but there was a meeting between GA and FIA/ACO officials at the Silverstone during the WEC race last week.

Well it is the France family's MO to own *everything* they're involved in. Sebring is probably not on the 2013 calendar anyway; rather than risk the administrative nightmare that is a combined WEC/ALMS race, the WEC will most likely ditch Sebring in favour of Austin (Circuit of the Americas). They've already dropped Petit Le Mans this year.

On the other hand these meetings and murmurs from Grand-Am sources haven't stopped. There has even been talk of getting the Daytona 24 to open the WEC (in place of Sebring, but there is a big enough gap in the calendar to accomodate both).

It will all hinge on how close the proposed merger regulations are to what the FIA have set out for the 2014 prototypes. A best-case scenario could be similar to the IMSA GTP/FIA Group C regulations that were closely linked but differed to account for regional concerns.
