Motorsport Off Topic Thread

I keep meaning to sub for the year with tesco clubcard vouchers as it's only about £15 in vouchers iirc. I bought it from the first edition in 96 til about 2000ish when it got boring. It seems to have got better from the bits I have read when someone has left one on an aircraft :)

I used to steal my sisters copies a few years back, but now I have a subscription.

Obviously to any dedicated fan the race reviews and news are usually a bit redundant, but the additional articles are always good. They have also stocked up on a few new writers this month which has been good. There's a great column about F1 politics that should become a regular piece.

"I've been working with Felipe for three years now and we have a very good relationship," said Alonso on Thursday in Singapore.

"If the team decides to change Felipe, anyone who arrives has to be better than Felipe.

"I've seen a lot of names written, and I don't know if they have been written with the head or the heart.

"With all the names you hear, if you compare what Felipe has done in Formula 1 and what these little names have done in Formula 1..."
why doesnt he want a driver that will push him? going to crack like an egg if its another lewis :D

most of the sports sites that driver ratings throughout the season have felipe almost down the bottom of the list.....

Not quite sure what you expect him to say? He is hardly going to reel out a list of those he thinks would be better than Massa is he? And he is right if Ferrari are going to replace Massa then they need someone better.

Funny how you think Alonso is afraid yet Kubica would have been signed if not for his accident. It's well documented why Alonso lost the plot at McLaren, even your precious MS said he could never work with Ron Dennis as he seen what he is.

If points were rewarded based on qualifying results before grid* :

Hamilton 221
Vettel 166
Button 133
Alonso 124
Webber 118
Schumacher 112
Grosjean 96
Rosberg 93
Kimi 81
Massa 45

* Note Hamilton was disqualified in Spain so need to shift Spain Qualy results up by one position.

** Interestingly 67 of Button's 133 came from the last 4 races alone. After the first few races, he had a terrible run in qualifying in the first half of the season.

huge image spoilred so it doesnt ruin the thread

Thats quite a good comparison. Shows well those who are pushing forwards from poor qualifying results (Kimi) and those who are falling back or dropping out during the race (McLaren).

Officials in Thailand have claimed that they had agreed a deal in principle with Bernie Ecclestone to host a night race in Bangkok from 2014.

Speculation that the Asian country was going to pitch to join the Formula 1 calendar has swirled for a couple of years with government officials having spoken about the positive affect the sport could have on the country in wake of a successful Red Bull street demonstration in Bangkok in 2010.

And now according to the local Bangkok Post, a race is now firmly in the pipeline with the Governor of Thailand's Sports Authority Kanokphand reportedtly having met with Ecclestone to discuss a deal at last weekend's Singapore GP.

Although the hosting fee Thailand will pay is not said to have been finalised in that meeting, Kanokphand has nonetheless suggested the country will follow Singapore's lead in staging a race under floodlights.

"It will be a city race like that in Singapore and Monaco," the newspaper quoted the official as saying.

"It will be a night race like the Singapore Grand Prix."

I would actually love to see that.

yea lets replace all the purposely designed racing circuits with night lit street races in countries where the goverment is willing to shove big bucks at bernie

maybe he could rename the series to formula nipon one or something more appropriate

This.

I guarantee that if this happens it will appear on the calendar at the expense of one of the European circuits.
