Random question, I'm watching the Miami grid walk on Youtube (always find them fun) but I always seem to miss them live. How far ahead of the race start do they normally occur?

About 15-30 mins before the race, depending on how busy the grid is.
Thats weird because I'm sure I put the telly on about 8.10pm on Sunday night and thought "oh this'll be perfect to catch the grid walk" then it just never happened

EDIT: Realised you said 15-30 mins before. I guess thats why.

Well it is now official.

From 2026 it will be Red Bull Porsche, with the German company linking up wirh Red Bull Powertrains to build and develop the new engines from 2026 onwards.

Audi yet to confirm who they will be linking up wuth though.

https://www.sportindustry.biz/news/audi-and-porsche-enter-formula-one#:~:text=Porsche would partner with the,run as Red Bull-Porsche.

Its not really Porsche though is it. They are just giving Redbull a wad of cash to put their name on their powertrain division that is essentially a Honda designed unit.

We're talking 2026. The PU won't be the Honda, it will most likely be a completely new engine designed by Red Bull Powertrains (with unknown input from Porsche, if any).

Honda are still running the current PUs, not RBPt, and are rumoured to be contemplating reversing their withdrawal. Honda still own the IP to their current unit and RBPt/Porsche can't base their engine off it (that's not to say they've not learned anything from it of course).

Of course all that assumes that is eventually confirmed that Porsche do indeed team with Red Bull.

It HAS been confirmed.

Parent company VW have COMMITTED Porsche and Audi to entering F1 in 2026, even before F1 have released details on the new powertrain.

So you just link to another article without any confirmation, as your previous post on the matter. In that case, see my replay from a few days ago. Nothing is confirmed.

You stated previously you worked with Arrows/Footwork in the 80s or 90s. Surely you should know from first hand experience not to entirely trust Porsche to deliver until you see it with your own eyes.

The same has been said about Audi and VW in general for 20 years. It's going to happen, but like I said, until it's confirmed and at least someway along the dyno testing process I'm taking nothing for granted.

Seriously can you not read???

Formula 1 will gain two major additions with motorsport giants Porsche and Audi set to join the category, parent group Volkswagen confirmed this week.

VW chief Herbert Diess said that there had been divisions within the group over joining F1, but the board was eventually convinced to enter its two biggest brands.

“You just run out of arguments (against it),” Diess said.

I may be thick in many areas, but knowledge of the English language is enough that when I read the words "will" and "confirmed" it is 100% certain to mean "will" and "confirmed" and nothing else.

I also worked at McLaren TAG Porsche, so know EXACTLY what can happen when the full factory put their full might behind entering, and spend several years developing before entering, as shown by the 3 world drivers championships and 2 constructors champs in the 4 years of entering.

The engine used in the Arrows was not fully committed too by the full factory, it was not developed especially, it was cobbled together by a team who asked the bosses if they could play around with a few engines left over form the mid/late 80's successes.

I can read perfectly fine thank you. You're just repeating the same story from different publications using the authors quotes. The source is the same press VAG presentation Diess made the day before, when he all but confirmed it but stopped short of doing so.

Nobody from VAG has confirmed anything, as far as I know, unless you know different?

So why does EVERY article say Deiss DID CONFIRM it, yet you are the only one who reads them saying he didn't.

Sounds very much a you problem.

All the articles say
Volkswagen confirms that Audi and Porsche will enter Formula 1 in the next few years after VW Group chairman Herbert Diess has confirmed that Audi and Porsche will be joining F1 in the next few years.

Also quoting Deiss

Porsche has already taken very concrete steps to participate in the championship

Every article use the words confirm and will, never anything like, yet to be confirmed, or still to be decided, or finalised.
It is hard firm fact VW will be joining F1 using the Audi and Porsche brands.

Stefan Dominicali has pretty much said that F1 are writing the new engine rules to make sure that VW enter.

F1 have indeed been courting VW for many years, and only once Dominicali took over, as he was very high up in VW previously, then the VW board knew they had someone they could work with, and have been over the lsst year or so to get the rules heading in the direction they want.

So many articles all saying the same thing, all quoting the same guy saying the same thing, they cannot all be wrong.

Anyway, last thing I am saying on the subject.

Because he didn't actually say it. The closest he got was this:

That means you can decide now to do Formula 1 - or then probably not again for 10 years. And our two premium brands think that's the right thing to do and are prioritising it.

The presentation is on Youtube (in German, but with dodgy English subtitles).

We'll all know when the board sign it off as they will have to notify the stock market.

I think we all agree there's an inevitability about it, but motoring magazines are using words he never said.

I'll be honest though, I expected an announcement during the Miami weekend. Maybe they'll do it at Monaco instead.

Basically speaking, if the English speaking F1 media are reporting on something that was originally said in another language you can go right ahead and assume they're getting some part of it wrong. It's a game of Chinese whispers and Google translate.

The other bit that amuses me about the Audi/Porsche stuff, or Audi specifically, is that even if/when the VAG group give them the green light it's one thing for Porsche to join forces with RB (which seems pretty much a done deal) but the Audi proposal seems to be taking part ownership of a team rather than just engine supply. You can't take part ownership of a company unilaterally, and although there was the rumour (categorically denied) about McLaren and I believe confirmation they've spoken to Aston Martin there's no guarantees they'll actually find a team/terms to make that deal happen...

All a bit premature, as usual from media outlets on a slow news day :p

I just watched the last episode of the latest season of Drive to Survive, which was a mistake, as it made me immensely angry again over how last season ended and how much Masi's absurd decision robbed Hamilton of the title.:p

Did anyone catch Vettel on Question Time? I recorded it but wondering if it's worth the effort. Never usually a fan of that show to be honest, I find the general public to be quite moronic at the best of times :p

He talks a lot about the environment/green energy, but doesn't really say much of note.

Got the impression he doesn't do this sort of thing often, and he was allowed to waffle on a lot more than the average politician would have been.
