FIA confirming Honda back for 2026 as well - interesting times, looks like Porsche will need to just re-badge the Audi engine if they actually come into the sport at all.

Assuming that Andretti end up getting accepted I think the various engine line-ups could be like this, possibly with Honda supplying a 2nd if another new team gets in.....

Mercedes (Mercedes F1 & Aston Martin)
Honda (Williams)
Ford (Red Bull & AlphaTauri)
Renault (Alpine & Andretti/Cadillac)
Ferrari (Ferrari & Haas)
Audi/Porsche (Audi/Sauber & McLaren)

Have I missed something?
Don’t remember seeing anywhere Honda are to go to Williams? Or more to the point, Williams to drop Merc
Williams Honda - back to the 80s!

I never said it was an official thing I said "I think the various engine line-ups "could" be like this" - just me speculating.
But if Honda are coming back they've got limited options, it won't be McLaren after the debacle last time and I find it hard to see Aston dumping Mercedes given the car manufacturing parts of the business work together in some areas.

What engine would Honda be using though? They've handed their current design over to Red Bull Powertrains which would surely be worked on in conjunction with Ford now.

I think I've figured out why Oscar Piastri has picked 81.

I'm expecting he's going to make a logo similar to Landos LN hidden 4 with an O P out of the 81.

It'll be a small o and a back to front P.

This seems to be up for some debate, in the original plan where RBPT were going to take over the Honda programme from 2022 to 2025 it was said that the IP/design would be transferred from Honda to Red Bull Powertrains.
In the end though Honda in Japan have committed to continuing to manufacture and support those engines themselves until the end of 2025 so I don't think the current design IP/ownership was ever actually handed over.

Its Red Bull who will need to start from scratch, and in fact that's what they want as it officially makes then engine "newcomers" with all the extra dyno testing, etc that it comes with.

So, they'll keep the knowledge of the Honda (it's not like their engineers can forget what they've learned), and then along with Ford try to improve on it without the restrictions in place their competitors would have.
