Motorsport Off Topic Thread

Lol, we've been trolled.

Will Buxton, Jenny Gow and a bunch of other F1 journos have just gone out for a "crazy" night at a random Japanese restaurant...

Winterkorn out at VW. That might just have scuppered any potential F1 plans.

Tee hee.

Much as I'd hate to see RB and Torro Rosso leave F1 (the sport needs more teams, after all), I would be highly amused if they had to walk away due to having burned their bridges with Renault. Maybe they could negotiate with McLaren and Honda for some engines? They seem to need all the testing mileage that they can get....

I don't understand how RBR can make these demands. Red Bull and Torro Rosso leaving just opens the door to someone else coming in. Maybe Renault could buy Red Bull :p

I feel sorry for the RB/TR staff. The way the RB boss talks of just packing up and going home doesn't really sound very considerate of the 100's/1000's of staff that have busted their humps doing the very best job they could over the last 5+ years for their success... These are their livelihoods he is playing with! Yeah a lot would get scooped up by other teams but its still not on in my book...

The latest articles show a far less enthusiastic Ferrari about supplying RBR engines. :(

Which would mean Lotus goes bust and leaves instead.

There's hardly a queue of teams wanting to join F1. Losing any teams is bad news.

Why would Ferrari give Red Bull a works engine anyway, what's in this for them?

Either Ferrari gets something in return from Red Bull or Bernie, I don't see why they would otherwise.

Three car teams might have to be back on the agenda, Alonso and Button might beg to pay for the third seat at Mercedes or Ferrari! ;)

So you think a grid with 4 teams on it is OK then?

Most definitely not, I don't think F1 can afford to lose a big player like Red Bull. This is much bigger than losing a BMW when they went.

What I don't like is holding Ferrari to ransom, give us the same engine you have or we're done with this sport.

What's in this for Ferrari other than $$$? Red Bull knows this is the only chance they have of being competitive with Mercedes ruling themselves out.

Ok, so you think a grid with at most 4 competitive teams, and everyone else running old slow engines is OK?

Ferrari should supply Red Bull with current spec engines because F1 needs them too. All customer teams should get current spec engines otherwise, like RBR are saying, what's the point?

I don't think customer teams will ever get the same engines found in the works teams. That's the reason McLaren went with Honda, Williams is another example of this.

If we're ever going to get a situation where works and customer teams have the same updated engine it would have to come from a FIA mandate. Otherwise it's never going to happen.

Why are we in this mess in the first place though, Ferrari never wanted these engines. The sport loves shooting itself in the foot, they wanted to cut costs down. Have they really achieved this?

...because the teams can't be trusted to decide on something that's right for the sport.

Every team wants their own advantage and unless they were dragged kicking and screaming in to a spec engine series, they'll always look after themselves. Are Merc going to give Williams an identical engine or would they prefer to give them one 5% down on power? Would Ferrari give one of the most dominant teams of the last 5 years an engine that could potentially upset the apple cart at Maranello? Come si dice "would they bollocks?" :D
