Mountain Biking

What guys do you think of the Fox clothing Strike and flux helmet and the bell super r2. As I am thinking of a new helmet. I am looking for one for XC and Trail. I had my helmet which I bought for around £40 over 5 years now which is a MET and now I am thinking of getting a new one as I think I need a change.

I have the Super R2 and its great. Can feel a bit tight around the face but it sorts itself out after a few rides.

Off to Forest of Dean tomorrow. Will be the first time I've done any proper riding since breaking my rib at BPW earlier in the year. Still a bit tender but I can't bare to sit on my ass for another weekend doing nothing :p

Makes me sad how few MTB'ers we have in this forum, this thread moves too slow - I find myself checking on it twice a day only to find a post or two. Sad panda :(

I'm looking forward to getting back on my mtb soon. It doesn't get used much through the summer when I'm racing on my road bike. Probably my last road race of the season this coming weekend then it's mtb time.
Entered the Strathpuffer24 and some other long-distance mtb races for early next year so i have lots of training to do.
Better go and get the lights charged!

I replaced the Chinese "magnesium" pedals on the FSR, to some Tioga Surefoot's. They are MUCH bigger, the same sort of weight, and hopefully, won't bend on the axle!

Not ridden it yet, working on the roadbike build at the moment :D

I bent a pair of el-cheap pedals the other day and had an outing planned 24 hours later so in a panic I went into local bike shop and walked out with some DMR V12's. £45, not too bad a price considering it's a high street shop.

Lovely pedals, feet feel positively glued on!

Wife filled my outside storage with garden furniture.

My house now has a new feature in the hallway. :D

Think i need to take the hit on weight and invest in some proper sidewalled tyres, getting sick of flats, I have went years without a pinch flat running various maxxis tyres with DH casing, i'm getting flats every other ride with these exo HR2's:mad:

I was enjoying myself up until my rear end went soft, I was completely railing it down section 13 up hamsterley, blasted out of that long downward left hander into that steep banked right when a rock decided to end my fun, managed to hoon it down to the end of special K before it was too flat to ride.

*big post to add some reading material* :p

Since everyone else is mentioning pedals... Bought some El Plastique from Superstar Components for my Boardman replacing the pedals it came with. Why on earth did I not do this sooner? I'd not go as far as saying I feel glued on, but even without wearing proper mountain biking shoes I've got a load more grip, plus they look much cooler :D

Have so far evaded punctures with the Nobby Nics I have, although I still find I'm not quite sure on the amount of grip I have. Seems to be a point leaning where I lose grip only to gain it with a bigger lean. Still working up the confidence to make the most of that, tend to find I'm just leaning off of the bike around corners and keeping it fairly upright.

Ended up having a cracking day at Forest of Dean on Saturday, would love it to be more local to me! Sadly the end of the Verderers was closed, but I did the freeminers for the first time. Didn't enjoy those climbs but the rooty sections were huge fun with how muddy and slippery it was. Sheepskull and Corkscrew were both hugely rewarding, plus always enjoy the airtime on Launchpad.
Couldn't believe how grimy the bike got, the water splashing up over the bike was like paste, by the end of the ride my gears felt like they were completely rusty and the brakes sounded ruined. Happily all came off with a good clean when I got home :)

Kinda want to buy more stuff for the bike, but just can't think of anything I'd really change at the moment, not finding it's holding me back at all. Might get one of those Bell Super 2 helmets with the detachable chinguard however... Anyone use one?

A few things - you are running tubeless.... right? (if not, punch yourself in the balls)
If that's still the case running tubeless, then I'd suggest either investing in Schwalbe Super gravity casing tyres, or wait for the upcoming Maxxis double down casing.

The Specilaized Grid casing Butcher is a fair bit sturdier in the sidewall than those tyres you're running, but not quite as much as the SG. There are other options too, like Onza's Ibex ... but I've forgotten which casing is the one to go for!

Continental have brought out the apex carcass, which is also very sturdy, though I've not used this myself... a mate swears by it.
