Mountain Biking

anyone (cow?) fitted a renthal apex stem?

people say you have to slide the clampy bits over your bars? from the ends? (having to remove all the brakes grips etc) or just from a narrower part?

p.s went to tidworth on saturday - it was running so well - cant wait to go back

Yep, I've got one of these. You slide the clamps over the area where the bars arch upward, then push them to the centre. Piece of **** and you don't need to bother with taking anything off the bars.

Had a quick go on the Keswick BMX pump track last week as I'd parked right next to it. Rude not to :D

Really struggled to be able to clear the tabletop though, just couldn't get up enough speed!

Just back from my local trails. They've really dried up during the last week, parts of them are nearly "dusty". I'm regretting not getting a faster rolling rear tyre. Might have to get a new nobby nic / rock razor and keep the magic mary pacestar for next winter.

Did a bit of messing around with fork pressures today and I can't get them how I want them. No doubt I want the feeling of a pike out of my float32's and there's little hope for that! Oh if only santa could bring me a set of pikes.

Whats wrong with them then? Have you got the correct sag setting? Are they in need of service?

You can do a seal service yourself relatively cheap £24 for a seal kit from mojo, and it's an easy task as long as your capable. Literally undoing 2 nuts, removing old seals (i used a spanner) and putting new seals in (i used my hand :) ) then add some float oil to the foams behind the seals. Theres plenty of guides online.

Adding oil to the air chamber will ramp up the fork at the end of the stroke to give a far less linear feel if thats the problem. Bit like how a bottomless token does in pikes.

That gap! Those balls to go along with that gap!

Also, tempted to get a GPS unit for the bike as there is no way marked trails in Cyprus and will also be useful for the trip to Torridon/Skye. Any body use one?

Wouldnt a standard garmin work on cycle mode? I have a forerunner 910xt so will what it picks up this weekend

Hi All

The tube on my rs tora 302 was cut quite low. This has been ok up till now but I'd like a less aggressive angle and it seems my only option is a new set of forks. Any suggestions on a replacement for 26" with ~100mm travel? Have been looking at the rs 30 Gold TK.

I have an Edge500 and an eTrex20.

You dont actually need a map for either of them if you plot your route beforehand. You can follow the line you've set quite easily.

The etrex can display a map too, which makes it a bit easier if you want to go off exploring without a preset route to follow. I've used OS maps and OpenStreetMaps. OS is a lot better but expensive (;)). OSM doesnt have as much detail of the contours and other features but usually has all the paths marked on it so it would probably do the job fine.
