Mountain Biking

Just finished this for the Mrs.
Stumpy1.jpg

Needs the bars angled back, maybe a shorter stem and lop another 3-4 inches off the seatpost, but I wanted to give it a quick test ride first :D

Finally pulled the trigger on a new bike as an early christmas present to myself! Went for a Boardman Mountain Bike Comp HT 650B in the end. Wouldn't have been my first choice but for £405 right now it seems like decent value! I'll be picking it up after christmas and hopefully get a ride before the new year.

Nice :)

I got that exact bike in March and covered about a 1000km over all sorts of terrain and it took some serious abuse - good forks on it too, for the price.

The only think I did was put a tiny stem on it as I prefer it to be more lairy.

Tyres are a bit, towpathy so look at upgrading them, it'll make a massive difference. The rest of it brakes, gears will just work.

Good to hear you got on OK with it. I was a bit concerned buying from Halfords as you hear the odd case of a bike that has been thrown together but I'll check everything out before going out on it and give it a local shakedown before heading further afield on it.

Need to get myself a shock pump and chain stay protector now :)

haha, yes at first my shocks were so stiff the lockout made no difference. But the warranty is honest as I went through 3 BB in the 8 months i had it :D

Geo is defiantly XC but it'll be better than your ancient old thing by miles :p

Well it has begun... Invisiframe'd the Aeris last 2 days, excellent quality tape I must say. Far easier to work with than the heli tape stuff off of eBay and the like. Goes on like butter, and seems to have stuck well.

XC is all I do really. I still like my old GT but I just couldn't make the numbers work to get it up to the spec that I wanted when you can pick up a brand new bike for far less! Would have also needed an 80mm fork really which limits your choice.

Tempted to strip the old frame and keep it for a future build but realistically that will mean it just sitting around for years gathering dust. I might as well get a few quid for it on Gumtree :(

Picked it up today, pretty sure it is ex display. Clearly never been ridden but the rear mech was dusty and there were a couple of small scrapes and one end cap missing. £364 changed hands and if my cash back comes through I'll see another £26 back. Either way I'm pleased with what I paid for it!

Need to get the shifters into a place where I can actually reach them, put a drop more air in the forks, check everything over and give it a spin now.
