Mountain Biking

Just went up to my LBS in Ballater to help out after the flooding yesterday. Store room under 5 foot of water. They are still assessing the damage but it's a substantial amount.

It's times like these that supporting local businesses is so important, not just the bike shop.

:(

So.. my bike's had...Fork lower service, shock air can service, reverb bled, brakes bled, entire frame stripped of bearings / greased by popping off the rubber seals, gear cable inner / outer done, wheels re tensioned, new rubber M3 tape on the CS and chain stripped / regreased.

Ready to be boxed up as it's being picked up by the shipping company on Monday, won't see it for another 12 weeks!

I'm not 100% happy with the gearing on my new Boardman, It has a triple but I'm used to my off road riding being completely done on the middle ring (this was on my old 7 speed GT) but I found myself run out of gears a couple of times on the middle ring and never got near the lower ratios.

Now a new cassette is the easy option but I was wondering if a change to a single chain ring would be possible and go slightly bigger than my current middle ring? It has SRAM X5 if that makes a difference.

Was it Australia your moving to Cow? Good luck!

Cannot decide on a set of cranks to buy for the new build... Needs to be 11 speed Narrow wide and light enough not to be in the £400 bracket!

Amazed you have had it long enough to need servicing. Better get it done now before it rusts in the sea air on the beach while you surf. Git!

Best RF/Shimano cranks for your budget.

Or theres two sixc cranks for 200/250 on pinkbike right now ;)

I've not long done a little overhaul on my Mega for a year of uplifts again. Hopefully get some trail riding in this year too if I have the time.

In the past few months I've bled the reverb, bled rear brake, lower leg service on forks, seal service on rear shock, all the pivot bearings popped open and packed with mobil 222 grease, du bushes replaced on shock, removed the offset bushes as the bb was too low, bb opened and packed with 222 aswell, chain soaked in de-greaser then scrubbed till gold again and then soaked in oil.

Hopefully its been worth it and I get a year of fun! I love the Avid trail 9's on the bike but they are very fussy! Take a lot of cleaning, bleeding, fettling to get them nice and they dont stay nice for long! I much prefer the trail 9 levers to my shimano but I think shimano will end up going on it due to fit and forget.

All the pivot bearings I replaced with max compliment around 7 months ago, maybe longer. Popped them all open and luckily they were not rusty but fairly light on the grease!

Much nicer afterwards I think, far less in your face. Though 2015 Decal nice.

Still got to desticker other fork leg, get some black grips and thats about it. I would like a meatier front tire, something like a magic mary or a minion if they do a big one. Maxxis 2.3 isnt a shwalbe 2.3!

Yea man, cheers :)

Realised a couple bearings are completely seized and will need to be replaced when I get there... run outta time now. ...ps: don't wanna live that far from the beach to need a bicycle to get there :p

I'm a club, got an uplift with them tomorrow. (more of a work jolly than a 'club though)

Looks weird de-stickered, you should get some custom vinyls to match the yellow.
