Fresh out the box!

Looking forward to testing her out at the Forest of Dean this weekend.

Anyone on here entering Mountain Mayhem this year?

Ignore the handle bars they have been adjusted. I ordered new ones and stuck them on just to finish the build but not had my new ones yet

The Voodoo Bizango is an excellent bike for the money if you can push your budget up a notch.
I'd be inclined to also most definitely be looking at the second hand mark for aroud the £400 mark.

What you getting now Knifey?

agreed, much more bang for buck at that budget 2nd hand.

have a rummage on PB or bike radar.

I'm kind of in the same position as you. Wanting to get into MTB so looking for an entry level hardtail for £400ish.

I also went into decathlon and checked our their BTwin bikes and they do look good for the money, and seem to have decent reviews. The other options are the calibre bikes at Go Outdoors, the calibre two. Two. is very highly reviewed and around 400ish.

Halfords also have some decent ones, like the Carrera Kraken or Vulcan and the voodoo bikes too.

I kind of want a 29er but not sure I'll find a decent one for £400ish. Eyeing up this :

I got mine for £375

Voodoo Bizango 29er

Excellent price that - how u manage that?

I was camping in Dolby Forest...I was looking at ebay and a Guy was selling one local...I emailed him and met up with him...

Offered him 375 he agreed..Closed the auction...He had hardly used see pics above.

Lucky I guess.

Cannock Chase.
Tell me about it.

Been nearly 3-4 years since I went. Thought it was great then, but it's your standard hard packed trail center. Some good bits though, and IIRC some black segments with rocks etc.

I also remember it being quite narrow at times, so should be fun with 800mm bars!

Also have the DH playpark there, stile cop.

I've been three times - Cannock is awesome, large sections are quite stony/gravelly and yes it's a touch narrow - you will see the odd tree with handlebar scars! 14 miles the whole lot, excluding Stile Cop (which as said above is a DH playground).

Pretty good Cannock for when it's wet - generally doesn't become a slush fest.

I used to go once a month, but due to being lazy have only been i think twice in 2015!

The 2 main red routes there (follow the dog and monkey trail) are pretty good, you need to be fairly fit to ride them both. They both start on follow the dog and then you come to a fork in the trail where you decide whether you can manage the full thing or just the dog. Follow the dog takes around 45 minutes at a decent pace, if you do monkey as well your looking at at least 1hr 30 to 2hr depending on hold ups and fitness.

There are a few black cut off's on the monkey trail. I've done them all and only really like the one called noir I think. The others scared the crap outta me.

Some parts of the track (well probably most to be fair) are very hard cobbly stone which are slippy in the dry let alone when wet so be careful with front wheel wash out!

edit - you'll struggle on 2 or 3 sections with bars wider than 740! But luckily there not fast sections so wont catch you out.

Great advice ^ :)

Def wear gloves at Cannock - if you come off your hands are 99.9999% sure to get shredded through gravel. Been there, got the t-shirt etc.

I'm going to have such a shock if I ever ride a red route somewhere other than Thetford forest :p

I have only just got into MTB properly in the past 5 months and my first trail centre was Sherwood. The red route scared me in places as it was a boggy, slippery wet mess when I went. Then I did Thetford and it was so much fun, easier but much more pedalling because it's flat. Since then I have done Sherwood and I am pretty confident with it. just need to work on keeping speed up, dropping my heels and getting the timing right on drop offs.

I'd say get to Sherwood as it's less pedalling than Thetford as you get a break on the downs. I did Sherwood a few weeks back and did the Red twice and then a cool down on the blue 27mi in total.
