Mountain Biking

Busy afternoon!

Stripped, cleaned and lubed after a messy messy ride on thursday, on taking the handle bars off i noticed that the right side was bent where the brake lever is usually clamped, must be adding about an extra degree of rearward and upward sweep, looks like its time for some new bars next week... Gutted!
the concerning thing is, I think i'm pretty sure i know when it happened, and that was about 5 months ago! parked the bike in a small tree (I kept rolling down the hill), i just didnt see the damage:eek:
And to think i've been hitting big jumps drops and all sorts:eek:

Oh well guess i should reassemble.

I need you to do my bike in future! Thats some dedication. My lower headset is creaking like a mofo since i ham fist removed and installed a new one. It will do my head in but its staying like it!

I had to repair a puncture (i know! who gets punctures these days...) which left one wheel sparking clean whilst the rest of the bike was a nasty shade of beige, so yeah i'm not particularly OCD but it was bugging me, initially planned to give it a quick wipe down but that quickly turned into full strip down.

Still only half built now, kinda gave up after the 4th bottle of stella, i'll finish it tomorrow morning with the F1 on in the background.

Edit*
anyone got experience with Superstar components highline 780mm handlebar?

Weight: 363g
Backsweep: 8 degrees
Upsweep: 5 degrees
Rise: 40mm
Length: 780mm
Bar Clamp: 31.8mm
Grip Diameter: Standard grip size

Need something reasonably priced to replace the Fatbar.

Just back from the lakes and did the Altura red trail. First proper mountain biking I have done and loved it. The 3 odd mile ride up to the top of Whinlatter was rubbish but luckily the weather held out and it stopped raining for that part.

On the trail it was spitting and quite a bit of water and mud (my trainers got soaked) Good job I bought glasses (bloc shadow w301 multilens) as a big chunk of mud flew up and hit them as did a small rock. I was going pretty quick I think for a beginner and had one pretty big fall where my helmet visor hit the rocks and half my coat got plastered in mud :D

All in all a hard and wet but fun ride... To the next when my new bike will have arrived

Screw it, Buy cheap buy twice! I'll just buy a new fatbar, realised i'm just being a tight arse for no reason, i'll just leave off the beer for month, i'd rather ride the bike than booze it up for a month.

Looking at a Cube Stereo 160 HPA TM - either that or a similar priced Lapierre Spicy. Those were the front runners but I've also just spotted a Spesh Camber FSR Comp Carbon.. Help!

The only thing that puts me off the Canyon is the shapeshifter thing, does it work?

Also the Capra is in the same budget, if you're willing to wait.

What a **** day!

Had a family bereavement a few days back so had the day off to spend some time by myself. Felt like getting on the bike, fresh air and all that, so decided to head to Llandegla as I've not been for a few years. It's two hours from me so not just round the corner.

Had a quick play on the skills area then plodded up the climb to the top. Hit the first part of jumpy singletrack and a rock smashes my rear mech and hanger to pieces :( bodged a single speed repair and rolled back to my car. Traffic was awful, takes nearly 3 hours to get home.

Sigh.

the joys of biking.

Crap like that happens a lot to me!

Got all the way cannock one day, we done 1 section my mate flatted, and he didnt have so much as a piece of lint on him let alone something useful. I only had shrader tubes and pump in my bag and his rim would only take presta so that ruined that day.

Last trip to bike park wales, been looking forward to it for 3 months like a kid, weather had been spot on for weeks, absolutely hammers it down all day there when we go. My friend had a b!tch fit and wanted to get home as soon as we pulled up, and even gave up before lunch and slept in his car while I soldiered on.

Finally got one of my friends out whos under the thumb like no other, told his missus we would be no longer than 4 hours all in. Headed to sherwood and was held up for nearly 3 hours because of a friggen tractor show! what the hell, who ques 3 hours to see tractors. We were stuck on the A6097 with no sign of bypass and just had to go home without riding! what a waste of fuel.

I get to go out on my bike around once a month due to working 6 days a week and having a child, I really feel like selling up and forgetting about biking, but I like it too damn much.
