Mountain Biking

The Stevie Smith videos actually made me quite emotional. I suppose a life of extreme sport carries these risks. Such a shame.

On a lighter note. I bought myself some superstar pedals. Noice!

See that's the thing, when you live a life style like this, you spend your life playing the odds, weighing up risk vs reward, eventually something goes wrong, unfortunately for some the consequences are much greater than others, you just have to come to terms with the fact that when your time is up its up.

Yeah it's tragic. But it's a potential consequence of living a life of risk. I watched a good documentary on Netflix called Valley Uprising about climbers in Yosemite. It covers some that climb with no ropes or safety. It's absolutely insane that these people can make one tiny mistake and be dead. Zero chance of survival from huge heights. Fascinating mentality.

Taking an afternoon off to head over to the Marin Trail tomorrow. Did about half of it last weekend and was knackered (fitness levels extremely low :D) but going to crack it all out tomorrow regardless of how long it takes!

I agree, the one with his mum and then seeing his mum posting on pinkbike had me ruined. :(

I run tubes (cba'd with tubeless setup hassle, tyres are EXO protection and don't get trouble with punctures) and I run 28 front 30 rear. That's on a pretty stiff hardtail, 650B 2.4.

I weigh around 70/71 kilos.

Subject of tyres I've just bought two Maxxis High Roller 2 Exo Protection Folding 3C Maxx Terra. I don't even need them yet but price was silly so thought what the heck - always good to have stock.

From where? I might get some - I think they roll better than minions?

YES! I got a BETD linkage for the 97 FSR :D An advert on retro-bikes that is now just over a year old came back to me today, and said he still had it.
Will give me a bit more travel and complete my stable :D

Just fitted my superstar nanos and they look nice. Riding sherwood pines in the morning. Never been there before but will be a good way to ease back into things I hope.

Need to get myself a dropper post soon. Component pricing is a disgrace really.

Absolutely knackered. Legs had zero power left in them at the end. Couldn't even enjoy the last few downhills as I was getting quad and calf cramp, hands were hurting and I was generally just exhausted. Rode for a while with another guy who was in a similar state, both first timers :p I am massively unfit cardio wise and very out of practice on the mtb, so I better get working on that before I do any more rides like this...

Annoyingly it hasn't picked up any of the full marin segments

Having not got on with my boardman (not a fan of full sus i think) i pre ordered a deedar frame today, i know it's a ridiculous name but hey ho. Absolutely loved my on one 456 summer season so i have high hopes for the on one deedar!

They sure do. Acycles - disgustingly cheap - £36 each I think, you'll find them (I'm on phone atm otherwise I'd link you up).

Ship from France but I'm in no rush.

Damn, those last ones are the best bit if I remember correctly! Still, my first crack at them put me in A&E for 9 stitches so you still did better than me.

Last time I went there I couldn't believe how much easier I found the climbs, so keep at it, they'll come.

Get yourself some 5-10s, I stick like glue to those nanos.

You think there expensive, then you use one and the price is more than justifiable. Infact they seem cheap when you realise how bloody good they are.

Just got back from Sherwood Pines, was a nice day out. Trails are pretty decent for someone like me just getting back into it.

Ive been wearing some flat soled Adidas trainers I've had for ages, they were grippy as hell. I do fancy some Five Tens or Adidas Terrex trail cross. (adidas bought five ten so share same compound on soles now i think.)

Regarding the seatpost, I can definitely appreciate how awesome they are, I just find it sometimes hard to stomach spending a 3rd of what my bike cost me on seatpost. :(

I got a bloody shin from my one fall but no stitches required :p

Will be working on my climbing for sure

Anyone used superstar wheels?

There 27 internal diameter wheels are ridiculously cheap with the 25% off currently. The weight doesn't seem too bad, 2kg roughly. Though about 200 grams heavier than current. The Easton/hope build I was looking at was going to be £500, the Superstar build will less than £200!
