Mountain Biking

Anyone used superstar wheels?

There 27 internal diameter wheels are ridiculously cheap with the 25% off currently. The weight doesn't seem too bad, 2kg roughly. Though about 200 grams heavier than current. The Easton/hope build I was looking at was going to be £500, the Superstar build will less than £200!

got the DS25 on switch hubs on the patrol. no bother so far.

had their previous version on the switch on flows before built by SSC. no issues with them either.

maybe i lucked out with their QC twice but some people dont like their builds.

Right.

The day of dread is upon me.

What would you lot buy for £2000, I can get £400 (1600 soft limit)off on Evans Cycles if that makes it better. I did spec up a bird but by the time I got it all specced it was £2100. £500 more than I'm willing to spend at the moment.

Saw the Norco Sight 7.1 2016. It looks pretty good with the Pike forks and the Monarch RC Rear suss. (Roughly around budget after the discounts)

Any recommendations. My heart says get the bird but my wallet will beat me up. And considering this is my first foray into Full Suspension (Previous bike was a £600 Saracen Mantra Pro that was hideously too big and laughably sketchy on gravel) I dont really want to go overboard but also don't want anything crap.

They work out at £150, and the race face ones just aren't going to survive a week in France. They go out of true just looking at a rock.

Might just grab them due to the insane cheap price

I had the same pair of SS wheels. Figured that I'd use them as a beater pair, but they turned out to be excellent and hardly deserving of being called by beater wheelset.

I'd still get an Aeris, but then I'm biased.
Everything I've ridden before or since I've not felt anywhere near as comfortable on. Sorry this doesn't help your predicament.

So I did the Borrowdale bash yesterday.... wow, what an epic of a ride that was! Lung-bursting isn't even in it regarding the climbs, but those descents...

Quite possibly some of the most difficult technical descending I've ever done, really needed to focus 100% and concentrate on line choice and looking ahead. Loads of walkers on the trails too, all of whom thought we were start raving mad! :D

Pic in no way shows just how bottom-clenchingly steep this bit is!

The 'worst' climb is probably the first rocky climb out of Watendlath, I managed a few hundred meters, but then gave up and pushed the rest. The road climbs are a slog, but manageable - even with 1x11.

We got a bit lost around Seatoller, the directions didn't seem to match up with the route line on the map, we possibly should have climbed Honister pass a bit further up. Ended up climbing up a rocky path, but then it wasn't clear where to go, so descended back down it and ended up on a footpath which meant a lot of hiking, but we re-joined (what i presume to be) the route before castle crag, which gave another amazing descent, faster and flowier than the first ones and a little less technical, but part way down I finally succumbed to a rear snakebite.

If anyone's thinking of riding it, happy to post more pics - but take at least 2 tubes! :D

I'm in a similar boat to you but I've stripped my budget back and looking at £1k hard tail instead - leaning towards an Orange Crush S but I'll need to stump up a few more hundred quid for it.

My choice would be a Canyon but the models I'm looking at aren't "ready" until mid/end of July and I'm not willing to wait that long.

Fitted BETD linkage :D

Bike feels very plush now. Just need to swap the forks over from my other bike so it matches the rear
From 4 to 6 inches in 15 mins :D

Gonna get a dropper seatpost sometime soon for my Boardman Pro 29er, in the meantime I'm wondering if there are any good wheelsets for 29ers on Superstar components. Can anyone recommend something I might find lighter, and maybe a little more bling (red maybe).

Its currently on Mavic XM319 rims.

I'm currently looking at their 27IDs, 25% off the site all month it's very tempting. Making them £150. 2kg is quite heavy for a ser though. 200g above my current, but should be a lot stronger.

:( I has a sad.

My Capra frame is heading back to the Fatherland, hopefully for a replacement. Cracking around the BB shell area, some people's comments have suggested it's just cosmetic, but it looks deeper than that.
