Mountain Biking

true, but then a shock pump aint the most expensive thing to supply

No doubt, but at business level, things add up. BTW: I think it's crap that you don't get it with... just understand the reason(s) there might be for not including it (even going so far as logistics etc). You often find the bigger companies like Specialized and Giant are decent at providing you with additional "bits" (i.e: I got a bleed kit with my reign, spare mech hanger and a bag full of other crap I've not yet looked at sat in the garage :p )

Specialised Rockhopper Comp, 2006 spec. :D

So, yup!

2006.. dude, I thought Vs died out in the 90s

absolutely, i imagine it probably goes towards the builder getting a better bulk price on forks.

just annoying that a £30 RRP shock pump that probably costs them £10 or less to have made in the far east isn't supplied with a £2000+ RRP rig :D

I think I bought my bike on the cusp of manufacturers changing to disc, the model I bought had two options the Comp had V and the Comp Pro had disc.

Got it in the sale, so they didn't have the other one.

It's done me proud to be fair, and considering it's spent the last 2 years upside down in the shed I think it's due a service and a ride out before upgrading anyway.

Going to attempt Cadair Idris mountain at some point this weekend. Hopefully less tourism than snowdon!

New pads and calipers so hopefully less brake fade than my last mountain descent! Weather is horrendous around it at the moment and hasn't stopped raining for the last 12 Hours

Anyone recommend some decent bang for buck pedals? Bought my brothers bike (Merida Matts 40-D) off him for £100 but it's got his SPD pedals and I want some normal ones. Not looking to spend a fortune obviously!

both decent grippy pedals without breaking the bank.

I was also gonna suggest nukeproof pedals but it appears they have gone up in price?
I swear they were almost half the price last time I bought a pair.

So had something in my eye today after a trip to glentress, after forgetting my glasses.

Couldn't get it out, so after 3 hours in A&E I've got a scratched eye and had to have dirt removed from my eye lid. Was unpleasant (still is).

Yep, shall never be ridding without from now on!

How many on here use flats and how many clipless. I will be riding clipped in for the first time maybe tomorrow. I have heard/read arguments for and against both

Begbie - that doesnt sound nice. I felt a lot better when i had glasses on and no chunks of mud went in my eyes (like it has before) I dont like anything in my eyes. A couple of years ago I had some eye pain and thought it was strain fom looking at a monitor. I went for an eye test and eyes were fine but I had a piece of plastic lodged in my eyeball which had been there for almost 2 weeks! Straight to hospital where it was pulled out

Flats-4-life, always used flats, when i started riding my first few bikes bikes had flats and before i even cared about the difference i was already stuck in my ways, never had a any desire to try them either.

That's like my grandma saying to me today about not needing to use a computer or the internet because she has never cared about them and has always got on fine without!

Anyone have any ideas why Planet X have setup my bike with the brake levers pointing upwards? All this does it make it painful to brake and almost impossible to use the triggers!

Everyone rides with their brakes at a slightly different angle. You're supposed to adjust them to your preference before riding.

My bike came flat packed with the bars turned to the side, I wouldn't take it out and try to ride it that way, would I? :p

Another flat pedal rider here.. All Ive ever used, I dont try hard enough to warrant clips.

Brake levers are supposed to be in a position where when your riding your finger on the lever will be in a straight line with the rest of you forearm to reduce fatgue and discomfort. If you ride downhill more though its abit more difficult as your body shifts around more from drastic from your arse toching your rear tyre on some steep gnar or leaning overt the front abit more for front tyre grip.

I would never ride clipped in, prefer the freedom and seen so many little but stupid accident because of clips. I've never felt the need for clips, very rarely slipped a pedal but if i have slipped a pedal its probably my fault. I've had to whip my inside foot off in a split second many times when hitting turns too fast for my ability, if i would have been clipped in i'd be like mr graves with seperated shoulders.
