Mountain Biking

Rode at the Peak District today. Arrived early and beat the bank holiday rush. Was an absolutely perfect day for biking. I'll definitely be riding there again.

Descents give the bike a serious battering though, its so damn rocky!

Nice! Where abouts/what routes did you ride?

Has anyone been to Bedgebury in Kent? Planning to head there tomorrow and after some reviews :)

Just picked up a boardman mtr8.8 full suspension and looking to change the vittora morsa tyres to some that roll better, only really use the bike in the dry to work, on roads tow paths and through the woods now and again, ideally 27.5x 2.3 or wider in an xc tread if anyone has any recommendations

We started by Ladybower and went up and over, down hagg farm (?) over a road then up a long climb around hope (?) and down the beast. Then back up lockerbrook farm before finishing down one fast rocky descent call the screaming mile I think.

Was my first time and was just following a friend. Brutal climbs but fun descents

I have the mtr 8.9 and I swapped my tyres for Minions but they aren't suitable for what you want . Is there any reason you don't like the morsa? I rode all last summer on mine and thought they were decent.

Haven’t really given them a chance as only had the bike a few days but they have a big tread and are heavy at 1080g as mine are the black ones, i believe the grey sidewall ones are lighter, i have smart sams on my 29er and they are fast but dont seem to get very good reviews in 27.5

Bedgebury is OK, not particularly hilly but it's good fun for a blast around.

Parking is very expensive, there are other places to park but they'll be full on weekends like this.

Easily ridable on a hardtail, one loop of the red trail takes about an hour.

I wouldn't travel here, but as it's my 'local' it's perfect for a couple of hours, and it's rideable year round.

Ended up going to the Olympic Trails at Hadleigh Park and wasn’t disappointed!

Like a mini bike park Wales in Essex :p

Some really techy rock gardens and drops but everything has a chicken route if it isn’t rollable.

Took a friend who’s a roadie for his second mtb experience (we went to whinlatter a few years ago) and wildly under estimated his ability, took him down a black feature within 30 seconds and a rock jumped out at him and he ended up with a massive swollen hand and no skin left on elbows or knees :o

Fun times. Not done the beast, we carry on and do potato alley, that’s nuts! Was the final descent you did ending up at Derwent Water? There’s a great bit of track near the end of the loop we do that comes out at the pub near Ladybower.

Snapped the chain on my Roscoe last week (it was very stretched anyway) so I've decided new chainring and cassette for the Orange Chubby One as they're about a year and 2000 miles old. Meant I needed to get my spare bike (Iroko/Batbike) back running over the weekend, so put in a new gear cable, new chain, new cassette and it's good as new again :D

Probikegarage app reckons max life on a cassette should be about 6.2k miles! :D

I noticed a crack on the chain stay part of the swing arm on my Canyon Strive (2013 model) the day before i was riding FOD :( I managed to borrow a bike from a mate luckily.

I've just ordered a Giant Trance 1

Very nice!

Can anyone recommend me somewhere to ride this Sunday?

After somewhere with some decent elevation as going to wales end of May and want to get some practice climbing! On a hardtail so proper DH is out of the question but after something enduro-ey, and don’t have GPS so thinking best to stick to a trail centre, but open to anything!

Ideally working 2-3 hours of Essex, as there is no hills here :(

Peaslake, Surrey is my local, plenty of good trail and climbing on the hills.

Yeah, Surrey hills and no way to find trails don't go well together! :p:D

Trailforks would be good enough, and there's some cracking trails and no shortage of elevation. You'll still get horribly lost, though.

Friston Forest near eastbourne has plenty of trails and elevation, and there's QECP which is pretty hill too, and a trail centre with marked red and blue trails. Friston doesn't have marked trails but trailforks is very accurate, they mostly start around the same area. And there's a nice ride along the south downs way for some extra elevation.

As @TallPaul_S has said, I do want to get over to Peaslake soon but am a bit overwhelmed by the navigation side of it, fancy showing me round one day? :D

QECP looks good, I think it's a coin flip between that and Cannock Chase. Cannocks been on the list since I was a kid, however it is a bit further, worth the journey do you think?
