Mountain Biking

My bikes in for a service today, not looking forward to the cost though. Booked in for a 'Premium Service' (https://www.topmarkonline.com/workshop/bike-service/), I've not riden the bike for maybe 3 years. Its a boardman team fs. I was thinking of nipping out yesterday on it but the rear shock was flat and my shock pump wasn't working. The brakes had seized which i managed to loosen up but theres a few rusty bits.
Its been under a bike cover outside but with the weather it's took a hammering. I have a plastic bike shed (Lifetime branded one) which has my road bike (worth a fair bit more) and the kids bikes in so after the ervice the kids bikes can be put somewhere else and this can go into the bike shed. It's not perfect in there as it will still get cold i suppose.

I have some pedals which now have rusty pins on but i assume this wont matter really?
As for mtb shoes i have some five tens which are like a water proof version but they now a bit tight (my feet have randomly grown a size despite being in my 30's) so need some new ones. I ideally want 2 pairs a lightweight and breathable pair for the dry and some water proof ones. I find the rubber on the five tens is superb so ideally another pair of them. Any suggestions?

Funny/Stupid story but i had a pair of freerider five tens about a decade or so back and they were really messed up so i put them in the washing machine.... the rubber is really sticky and they stuck to the washing machine, i had to have two hands and put all my weight into getting them out. lesson learnt.

Any ideas as to where the best place be to sell my mountain bike would be? But bear in mind that I'm not allowed to drive anymore, so delivering it is going to be a problem.

Pinkbike buy and sell would be my first port of call, just list it as collection only or, if you can get hold of a box, shipping at the buyers expense (and have the courier come collect if you cant drop off).

My Poor bike is getting knackered.
It was never meant for the stuff I do with it.

Its a cheap hard tail ebike.

Its been a ride. So many red trails but when I'm with the group I sometimes go with almost no one is on a hard tail. Certainly not as basic as mine!

Is amazingly still going but it's now chewing up cash. Who knew this would be so expensive! Tyres at more than the car!

Been OTB twice. Obviously falls. And very nearly had a big one few weeks back. Felt gravity go negative. Must have been close!

Still worth it. Not sure if I love the challenge or the scenery more. Wish I'd taken it up years ago!

So many amazing pics that go with memories. Too many to put here. 3 below.

Thought I was gonna die here!
No exaggeration. One mistake..

Great pictures. Recently gotten into mountain biking myself having not ridden a push bike for over 18 years! but absolutely loving it.

I have been restoring a 2012 Cube aim which was in need of a bit of tlc. Initially I was just going to replace the wheels so I could fit some disc brakes but I got bitten by the bug and have ended up replacing every component on the bike, only thing that's original now is the frame and even that has a fresh paint job :)

I've spent way more than it's worth but I was using it as a project bike to learn on and it's definitely paid for itself in that regard.
I'm now looking into getting an E mountain bike but my current one will see me through this year, also planning a trip to bike park Wales in march hopefully.
Just need to get a bit fitter now!

For some reason the Nukeproof Scout 290 V3 has caught my attention. Anyone got one?

Not had a hardtail for a very long time.
A lot of my parts from the Nomad will swap across I will just need fork, wheels and the frame.

Went out looking at some new bikes over the weekend, visiting an independent as well as some Specialized and Giant concept stores. Crazy the amount of stuff about now and the wild sizing per brand, I was really taken with the Specialized status with the kit for the money until I realised it was a Mullet only setup from factory and I'm not convinced that's what I want.
Still not convinced whether I'll go new or used yet, if I can find a bargain I might end up with the latter! But who knows.

Basically looking for a full sus trail bike, ~140mm travel, well equipped, not costing the earth.

Yeti's are lovely though....

I like my trance 2. A few friends have mullets and say nothing but good things about them

Ordered a Nukeproof Scout 290 frame. Going to be strange I imagine both getting something with modern geo and a hardtail.

Time to get some to forks, I think Pike Ultimate 140 should do nicely.
Wheels, I'm thinking DT Swiss XM481 on Hope Pro 4 hubs with CX ray spokes.
Want a 170mm Reverb AXS as well and that should be all I need.

Bird have a sale on their AM9s but more of a 'enduro' though.

Most friends on mullets love them, most of them are riding proper steep stuff so unsure if it transfers as good to trail stuff or not. I personally don't think it'll matter all that much.

The giants were nice, I loved the colour options however the componentry for the money just wasn't as good as other brands :/

Oooh, the Aether 9C is rather lovely I must say. Especially discounted! Weird choice on forks though, never heard of them before! Must research

Yeah mullet seems to be great when doing mostly fairly hench trails but since I'd also be single track-ing, riding on/off road a lot I think it would be a bit weird.

So dropper posts.... Prices seem to vary from £100 >700
I don't have one and really could do with one, last time I went out I ended up with achy knees from the post being too low.

I'll need one with a lever that works with 2x at the front. Anything to avoid? I was thinking of the cheaper fox one and the lever to go with it.
Never installed one so hopefully something easy to install

As far as droppers go, once I tried a cheap brand x I decided I'll never buy an expensive post again.

So excited, for my new frame. Rockshox Pike Ultimate getting delivered today. Moonglu building my new XM481 / CX Ray / Hope Pro 4 wheels.
Been a long time since I've built up a new bike. Curious to see how 29er feels compared to my 26".
Probably get a Reverb AXS at some point for it.

Can't say I've tried a Brand X dropper but on my trail bike I've pretty much upgraded everything from stock bar the dropper post. Stock Orbea post, it goes up and down. Can't imagine the more expensive posts offer much more.

Maybe a different lever will offer a ligher feel ?
